Percy spent only a few days in hospital prior to his pass- ing at the wonderful age of 93 years. Thoughts are extended to his family, Merrill, Keith and Wilma & Aileen, all of Blackstock and their families. The fair activities were all most successful. Excellent crowds were at the Demolition Derby, the fair itself and the dance which concluded the day. Congratula- tions to President Dale Van Camp and his hard working board for another excellent Blackstock Fair. Donna Smith and Brian Braun of Olds, Alberta brought the display of Pinzgauer Cattle to Blackstock Fair and will be visiting other fairs including Port Perry on Sunday. Donna's hus- band Garry will be joining them on Tuesday. While here they are staying with Gerald and Joyce Kelly, Elaine and Esther. Last Friday, Nancy and Bob Bryans attended the funeral of friend Jessie Lloyd at Cloyne with Residents and their families enjoy picnic by Wendy Clark Many friends and family joined residents of the Port Perry Nurs- ing Home on Sunday, Aug. 11 for the annual family picnic. Although the weather forced us to hold the festivities indoors we did have a great time. There was lots to eat, games to play, and door prizes to win. Delightful enter- tainment was provided by Lenny Graf the clown. Monday was a very special day. It was Movie Day. A large varie- ty of movies were played all day long: We began at 10 a.m. and continued watching movies into the evening hours. The following day we held a sing song. Special thanks to Ruth- Thompson for accompanying on the piano. Wednesday, Aug. 14 we gathered together in the kitchen to make pickles. Our monthly birthday party was on the following day. Everyone enjoyed the delicious cake and had lots of fun playing Wheel of Fortune. Our week ended with a trip to Ballycliff N.H. in Ajax for a Car- nival Day. Our good weather lasted for most of the day. A love- ly barbecue lunch and different games were featured for us. Monday, Aug. 19 we held our monthly residents council. Many general ideas were discussed. Did you know that it is only four months till Christmas? We celebrated with a Blizzard Day on Tuesday. Morning exer- cises were done to Christmas carols. Throughout the afternoon we played winter-fun games. The day ended with a treat of popsicles. Wednesday afternoon was spent doing lots of baking. Supper Club was held on the 22nd. The feature was a steak and baked potato dinner. This week ended with an ice cream social. The residents enjoyed the delicious ice cream and apple crisp while socializing with each other. Birthday wishes go out to Mr. Norman Sammells (30), Mrs. Aveline Williams (2) and to Mr. Art Edmonds (4). Mr. Edmonds is turning 101 this year. A warm welcome is extended to Mr. Ross Dowson, Mr. Ross Wallace and also to Mrs. Margaret Kirby. The residents and staff extend our sincerest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Tony Mark and also of Mrs. Florence Ellicott. May they rest in peace. We were also saddened with the news of the tragic death of Bren- da Senior. Brenda was a much- loved fellow employee and many will surely miss her. Our sym- pathy to her family. Upcoming events are Kid's Day (28), Corn Roast - 7 p.m. (29) and Picnic - 10 a.m. (30), plus lots of other exciting activities in September. Descendants of Norman and Margaret Mountjoy held their an- nual picnic and family gathering at the beautiful home of Linda and Bob Kyte and family on Sunday. The day began with a pot luck pic- nic at noon with much visiting and activities concluding with another picnic at supper time. An enjoyable day of fishing and visiting with Alf and Marg Tom- chishin on Scugog Island was spent by Nancy Bryans and Joan and Merv Brisco, Whitby. With many of our students preparing to return or set off to college or university, I would like to prepare a list of students and their places of post-secondary studies. Please phone me of the student in your family as soon as possible at 986-4257. Large flower show Wednesday ~ Ashburn News Just another week before school reopens. Where has the summer gone? We surely can't complain about the lovely warm summer days we are still enjoying. Congratulations to Theo and Joan Knight on the arrival of their new granddaughter Shelby Rae. Proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Knight of Oshawa. Florence Ashton enjoyed a bus trip to Chautauqua, New York last weekend, accompanied by Doris Harding, Whitby, Pat Bonk and Anne Moffat of Oshawa. While there, Anne Murray and Johnny Mathis entertained at the Amphitheatre, and also enjoyed the beautiful grounds of the Chautauque Institute. The setting is on beautiful Lake Chautauqua, a Victorian Community with an area comprising of 832 acres. Brooklin Horticultural Society will meet on Wednesday evening of this week at Brooklin United Church. This will be the largest flower show of the year with 65 classes of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Special speaker for the evening will be Verna Laurin of Toronto, secretary of the Canadian Iris Society, having been an active member for many years. There will also be an iris exchange. If at all possible, it would be nice if the iris you bring could be named. It is nice to have Sharmen Porter home again, after spen- ding about seven weeks in the Maritimes. Sharmen took a French Immersion Course at University St. Anne, at Church- point, Nova Scotia. Church School will commence on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10 p.m. Have a nice week.
