12 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 20, 1991 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Port Perry man Kinsmen National president Dave Robinson of Port Perry, Ontario and Gail Malcolm of In- gersoll, Ontario were today elected as National Presidents of the Association of Kin Clubs. Mr. Robinson, the new National Kinsmen President, works for the Durham Board of Education as a computer teacher and Mrs. Malcolm the new National Kinette President, is the ex- ecutive director of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of St. Thomas/Elgin. The elections took place at the Association's national convention in Halifax, N.S. where it was an- nounced that during the past year the nearly 1,000 Kinsmen and Kinette clubs across Canada donated $28,659,346 in service funds to their communities. Since the first Kinsmen club began supporting cystic fibrosis back in 1964, more than $16 million has been raised. As the Association enters its 72nd year, Kinsmen and Kinettes can take a great deal of pride in their support of many organiza- tions including the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Operation Go Home, Kin Shining Light and Swimming Canada. The Kinsmen Foundation of Saskatchewan and the Kinsmen Rehabilitation Foundation of British Columbia, both of which serve the needs of disabled people in those provinces, again had suc- cessful fundraising years, The Saskatchewan Clubs rais- ed over 1.8 million during a 20-hour telethon called telemiracle to support their foun- dation while the B.C. clubs assisted their foundation by rais- ing $1.5 million in a door-to-door blitz known as the Kinsmen Mothers' march. While Kinsmen and Kinettes are all-Canadian more that $65,000 was sent to help Kin inter- national development activities in the Sudan and Peru. Mr. Robinson has been a Kinsmen since 1981, belonging to clubs in Ontario and is currently a member of the Kinsmen Club of Port Perry.
