Domestic parrots make good pets From Page 15 a special parrot feed formula with an eye-dropper for 12 weeks, before they are introduced to solid foods. These hand feedings take place four times each day. Their first taste of a solid food is usually Cheerios, which is easy for the young parrots to grab and chew, and eventually they are weaned onto pellets. While there are some monetary gains to be made by raising parrots, Mr. Luke is quick to explain that the domestic raising of parrots is not possible without a lot of dedication and hard work. Feeding, hand taming and cleaning cages for 48 birds consumes about three hours of Mr. Luke's time each day.
