'Rep' ball team upped their record to 11 wins, one tie and three losses with two victories last week. On July 9 our mites staged a dramatic come-from-behind home victory by a 6-4 score over Vaughan. The visitors led 3-0 at one point but our team nibbled away at the lead and went ahead 4-3 only to see Vaughan tie the score on an error in the sixth inning. Rather than just roll over, however, our players gamely rallied in their last at bat and scored two runs with two out to steal the win. Jeff Ashton walked, Chris Jones singled and Justin Heyworth got the game winning hit to score Jeff. Chris scored the insurance run on a passed ball. Michael Versage had a good game at the plate for Port with a triple and a homer while Michael McLennan also had two hits. Ryan McQuade started on the rubber for Port Perry and had six strike outs while giving up only one hit. Chris Jones got the win in relief by sending 11 of the 15 bat- ters faced back to the dugout while not allowing any hits. On July 11 our Tavlor Ford Mites were on the road to Picker- ing for a game where we took ad- vantage of inconsistent Pickering pitching for a decisive 24-5 vic- tory. In this game Justin Big- gelstone had a triple and four walks for an excellent showing and Darryl Dalton was also perfect with one hit and three walks. Mark Richardson was two for three with two walks and a big tri- ple. Michael Versage had a dou- ble and triple as well. Defensively, Scott Cunningham made a nice throw to the pitcher for the final out of the game to get a runner trying to score from third. Reid McTaggart and Aaron Chambers covered their positions superbly throughout the game. Chris Jones started and won for Port with no hits given up and at one point struck out six con- secutive batters. Our relief ace Ryan McQuade mopped up the final inning with two strikeouts. Our players will be working hard next week in practice to prepare to go on the road for a double header against first-place Bramalea on July 21 and a tour- nament in Simcoe on July 27. good luck team! The 'Burgundy' girls batting was also right on with Sarah Coyne leading her team with a tri- ple and a double. She also con- tributed well on the pitchers mound.
