Twenty-four teams com- peted in three different divisions, and the three host teams all played extremely well. In the under eight division, Scugog played Uxbridge B in their first game and were vic- torious with a 3-1 score. Dean VanCamp, Jeff Crosier and Nick Byers each had a goal for the Scugog team. In the second game, West Rouge emerged victorious over Scugog, with a 4-1 score. Once again, Dean VanCamp managed a goal for his team. In the final match of the day, Scugog lost a heartbreaker to Darlington by a close 2-1 score. Dean VanCamp continued his scoring streak by getting his third goal of the day. In the under 10 division, Scugog got off to a fast start, defeating the team from Ajax 7-0. Brad Johnston led the pace with two quick goals in the opening minutes and the team never look- ed back. Wade Ritchie and Lawrence Cook also had two goals a piece, with Steve Wygerde scoring the other marker. In the second game, a very strong Darlington squad defeated the Scugog Club 2-0, despite an ex- cellent defensive effort by the whole team and a large number of saves by goalkeeper Joey Drebit. In the final match of the day, the Scugog squad was once again victorious, soundly defeating the Uxbridge B team 8-0. Wade Ritchie led the scoring at- tack for Scugog, firing four goals, while Lawrence Cook had a pair and Jason Whitworth and Jamie Byers rounded out the scoring. A strong defence once again helped goalie Joey Drebit to his second shut-out of the day. Because of their 2-1 record on Saturday, Scugog advanced to the semi-final round on Sunday against the Uxbridge A team. Jason Whitworth scored the only marker of the first half, but in the second half Uxbridge managed to get two goals, including the win- ner in the dying minutes of the game, and Scugog was defeated in a heartbreaker by a 2-1 score. In the under 12 division, Scugog saw the first two games as shutouts for goaltender Kent Johnston, as his team defeated Uxbridge 4-0 and Kingsview 3-0. In the first game, Mark Sauter, Blain Kinnunen, Rob Murphy and Alex Wardley had the Scugog goals, while in the second game Mark, Rob & Alex provided the markers. In their third game of the day Darlington B surprised our squad, and despite a goal by Rob Murphy, Scugog was defeated 3-1. However, their 2-1 record was also good enough to carry the Mosquitos to the semi-final round on Sunday. In that game Scugog had a 2-1 lead, on goals by Mark Sauter and Rob Murphy, but the Darlington A team came from behind and emerged as the win- ners with a 3-2 score. A special thank you on behalf of the soccer club to all the officials, and the parents who helped to man the snack-bar throughout both days of the tournament.
