"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 16, 1991 - 11 Residents concerned with traffic volume From Page 1 An alternative to the parking lot is the construction of a fish- ing pier on the northside of the road. An idea previously sug- gested by MTO. Under this proposal, fishing would be limited to the north side of the highway where a fishing pier would be estab- lished. A proper parking lot would be created as well as a walking path in order to access the pier. Fishing on the south side would be restricted. Although she saysit is a good idea, it does have its limita- tions, including cost. Not only would the initial cost of the construction be ex- pensive, but the general up- eep of the area, especially gar- abage pick-up would be substantial. Litter has been a constant problem in the area over the years, and therefore some sort of garbage collection would be needed. "It would be expensive, Idon't deny that." She was unable to attach a dollar amount to the project, but added that the Township would have to work out some sort of cost-sharing scheme with the government. Mayor Hall says the time for talk about changes is over and now is the time for something to be done. He adds that some- thing did happen on the road, and it could have been a lot worse thanit was. A decision on the area is not expected for at least six months, Mayor Hall said. Another area of concern is the stretch of the Highway from Simcoe Street to Water Street. For years residents have ex- pressed concern over the vol- Jackson - Edinger Douglas & Helena Edinger of Seagrave and George & Eleanor Jackson of Port Perry wish to announce the forthcoming marriage of their children Anita and Kevin on Sept. 21191 at Immaculate Conception Church at 2 pm. May- or Hall says little can be done aboutit, however. The speed limit is 50 km per hour, an accepted limit for an Ontario road, and he questions whether it could be reduced any further. Councillor Christie has con- ~SHT OF Over 300 vehicles to be sold in a limited time cerns about the road in the gen- eral vicinity, but also questions what can be done. She agrees that there is no need to reduce the speed any further. She says one solution is to make the traffic signs larger along that stretch of road. This would emphasize the speed lim- it, and perhaps the drivers would be more cautious. Another solution is to give Scugog Street a more residen- SPRINTS | AS ow *6,299" OVER 30 TO CHOOSE STOCK #745062 be Se Ea} fg Vehicles not exaclly as dlustrated Financing OA C Cost of hnanaing $10.000 over 48 months at 89% 1s $1922 24 - payment is $248.38 Vehicle prices have factory incen- tives and cashbacks assigred lo Dealer 'Some prices also include Graduate Rebate of $750 Freight and applicable taxes extra Il reduced hnance rales are used cashbacks are not available See Dealer for qualifications and details 140 BOND ST.
