Bruins open series with a 10-4 victory The Uxbridge Bruins have taken a 1-0 lead in their best of seven series against the North Frontenac Flyers. The Bruins skated to a 10-4 victory over the Flyers in a game played Sunday evening in North Frontenac. Bruins were led by captain Greg Cook who clicked for three goals and set up two more. Kelly Chalykoff helped the cause with two goals. The Bruins were never in trouble in this one as they jumped into an 4-1 lead after 20 minutes. They upped the margin to 8-3 after the second period and then played it close to the vest as the game turned a bit chippy. The Bruins finished in first place in the Central Ontario Junior C Loop this season. And they won the right to advance to the all-Ontario quar- ter finals with North Frontenac after defeating the Bowman- ville Eagles in seven games. Bruins nipped Bowman- ville 1-0 in game seven Friday night in front of a standing room only crowd at the Ux- bridge Arena. Kelly Chalykoff netted the game's only goal mid-way through the first period in what was a tight checking contest throughout. The Eagles forced the sev- enth and deciding game in this series by virtue of a 9-8 double over-time win on their home ice the previous evening. Bruins have been in the Central Junior C League for about a decade and this is the i rst time they have taken the ti- tle. Game two in the series with North Frontenac is set for this Friday evening (March 22) at the Uxbridge Arena with face-off at 8:30. Game three is Sunday in Frontenac and game four back in Uxbridge on Tuesday, March 26, also set for 8:30 PM Bruins manager Chuck Philips said he was very pleased with his team's performance in the 10-4 victory. "But I don't think we saw the best of the Flyers," he add- ed. When business is good, it pays to advertise... When business is bad, you've got to advertise!
