Seniors celebrate St. Patrick's Day rss] President Bill Harper opened the meeting and O'Canada was sung. Several of the members wore "green" in honour of St. Patrick's Day. Mary Cannon read the minutes of the previous meeting and Harold Cornish read the Treasurer's Report. A lengthy business session was held re - drapes & appliances for the hall. The members are asked to design their Easter Bonnet for the meeting of March 27. They will be judged, so you may be the winner. We are still asking for more food for the Food Bank and there will be a box at the hall if you wish to donate. Better health is wished for our sick members and hope the spring weather will see them improving. Edna announced choir practice is at the usual time and new members are welcome. The draw winners were Edna Manns, Jean Carnochan, Mac Wybrow, Fran Gibson and Mary Clark. The meeting closed with prayer. Later members enjoyed a delicious pot-luck supper follow- ed by some lively Irish songs. Thank you to the senior choir for the entertainment. Watch to see if your en- gine is hard to start, 3 uses gas excessively, is [fii sluggish, or smokes or is SE excessively noisy. LL Be sure that your cool- ing system is in good Sa condition. The adventof fie more hot weather could fo bring about the failure of a hose, belt or other components. How long has it been since your antifreeze/coolant has been tested. How about the condi- tion of your tires? Heavy loads at high speeds on hot surfaces are hard on tires. To avoid failure, make sure tires have 2 Ts GAA plenty of tread and are a "properly inflated. Eo How's your oil? Oil is Lo not only a lubricant, itis i a coolant as well. And Lo clean, well filtered oil will [= i oun, on a 2 BR help your engine survive the heat. Check your transmis- sion. Does it slip when you shift gears? Is it noisy? Does it shift errat- ically? For those who tow a trailer, it is espe- cially vital for your trans- mission to be in the best working order possible. Be sure that brakes stop evenly, and are not making "funny noises". Watch to see if lights are working and that they are focused correct- ly. Also check turning signals and windshield :4 wipers for smearing or sid streaking. =4 Even if your caris in 4 top condition, safeguard- ing it from summer heat is very important. The most common complaint from summer drivers is that the heat affects the car's radiator, causing it to boil over. However, automotive experts be- lieve that heat can affect the entire car, not just the coolant in the radia- tor. Tires that are ""over- heated" can blow out or shred if the recommend- ed air pressure is not maintained. Strong sunlight com- bined with pollutants and salt can damage a car's finish. Washing your car regularly is the best way to combat this problem. Keeping your car in the best condition possible with regular check-ups is the best way to assure a car's longevity and the best way for you to enjoy a spring and summer of safe, happy driving. 2 EE 2 RRR a i Sn DENNIS DERSON CHEVROLET - OLDSMOBILE LTD.
