Scott Wylie scored a minute later with assists "to Empringham and Sytayk. Wylie scored early in the third, his second of the night from Syt- nyk and Simon Traynor. Cobourg scored two goals at the nine minute and six minute mark to come within one but Wylie, scoring again to earn his hat trick, tallied with 11 seconds to give Port the commanding win over the Cobourg squad and to take a 2-0 lead in the series. The final score Port Perry 5 - Cobourg 3. Port played at home the follow- ing Friday and came up short as they did not play to the potential that they're capable to play. Although the score was close, Cobourg outplayed Port from the opening face-off as Port's goalie Steve Stiles stoned Cobourg on a dozen or so attempts. The visitors were first to tally late in the second to go up one on the already fatigued home team. Port came alive at the start of the second period when they scored three goals in 2 minutes. Scoring the tying goal was Jeff Card from Sean McEnaney, then Geravin Sytnyk scored an unassisted goal forty seconds later, and then McEnaney scored from Dave Pashley and Corey Bricknell forty seconds later to give Port a big lead. Port seemed to give up as Cobourg scored two more goals just four minutes after Port's last | one to tie things up at three. Cobourg scored at the six minute mark of the third to go ahead 4-3. Port's Jeff Card again broke the lead a minute and a half later . to tie things up at four. With eleven seconds on the clock Port iced the puck and therefore there was a faceoff deep in their end. Port's centerman was kicked out of the circle with one of Port's wingers taking the draw. It took Cobourg three seconds to win the game. With this loss, Port now travells back to Cobourg tonight (Tues. Feb. 12) to take on Cobourg for the last time this year in their arena, let's hope it's the last time we have to play Cobourg. Junior ringette The Ivory Forest Juniors en- joyed a successful weekend as they won one game and went on to tie another. The Oakwood Arena hosted the Port Perry Juniors on Saturday February 9. A continuous volley of shots on the Mariposa goalie resulted in six goals for Port. 'Scoring was every spread out throughout the forward lines. ~ Dawn Doucette scored Port's first goal on a quick wrist shot. Jen- nifer Josephson was awarded the assist. For the second goal, Dawn returned the favour as she pass- ed the ring up to Jennifer who deftly popped the ring into the net. Lyndsay Dutkewich went on to assist, with Denna Lovering, on a goal by Valerie Payne. With 4:49 remaining in the first period, Karen Kett slipped the ring into the net on a solo effort. The additional two goals were scored by Denna Lovering on some very nicely placed shots. 'Val Payne earned assists 01 both goals with extra assists going to Lyndsay Dutkewich and Kim Poppleton. Special mention should go to Tracy Pelow who stopped every shot that came her way, earning a shutout. Sunday, February 10, the Juniors from Markham played the Port Juniors at the Scugog Arena. This was a well played game with the goals evenly distributed between the two teams. The first period ended in a two-two tie. Port's goals were scored by Denna Lovering and Lyndsay Dutkewich with assists going to Jennifer Josephson, Dawn Doucette and Lyndsay Dutkewich. - During the second period, both teams managed to find the net three times. Denna Lovering scored twice with assists award- ed to Karen Kett and Michelle Fitzpatrick. Port's final goal, which tied the game at 5-5, where it remained, was scored by Karen Kett, assisted by Lyndsay Dutkewich. A pat on the back should go out to Michelle Fitzpatrick who has been doing an excellent job filling in for the ailing Shannon Fox back in the red stick position. A mixed bonsplel was held Saturday at Port Perry Curling Club and the rink skipped by-Dean Nadon came out the winners. Club rep Ga ry McConnell (left) presents trophy to the skip and team members Beth Nadon, Dean Haugen and Patricia Haugen. Runner up was the rink skipped by Al Loyst of Port Perry.
