'Coldwell Banker Petite A's win The Country Lane - Coldwell Banker Petite '""A's" played host to the Ajax team Sunday the 27th. The first period was spent with the two teams gauging the other's strengths and weaknesses as they both raced, checked and passed from end to end. The clock read 10:48 before the first whistle was heard. It ended scoreless and penalty free ... but the second period brought more excitement (for Port fans, that is). Cara continually amazed us with her wicked checking techni- que that almost always results in her possessing the ring. Cindy played another strong game always anticipating the play and managed to get a few shots away - but their netminder doesn't have too much room for a slip in the net. Her limbs seem to stretch bionically. Brooke and Janna enjoyed playing some bluestick shifts and their checking abilities dazzled Ajax's defense. Too bad those cor- ner shots didn't get in girls! Fine effort! This game, it was the Laura, Janine, Dana line that put Port on the scoreboard. 20 minutes into the game, Laura checked, passed to Janine who found Dana ahead of their defense ready to go in on a breakaway. With a strong wrist shot she scored and Port took the lead 1-0. 4 minutes later, the reverse hap- pened and it was Janine who pass- ed to Dana to Laura who saw an opportunity and got a beautiful wrist shot past the goalie to make the score 2-0, which was to be the final score of the game. Bonni-Jo, Janna, Brooke and Shona played their usual strong checking game with strategic . passes up the ice. All 4 deserve a big pat on the back for their never-ending determined efforts which resulted in foiling Ajax's attempts to get through our defense to get a breakaway. Christie Aldridge did a fabulous job in net, making numerous key saves. We appreciate you playing goalie tor us Christie and hope the injury you suffered during the game soon mends itself. Con- gratulations on your shutout! I And congratulations girls for playing a completely penalty-free game. The first of the season. We missed Alechia's strength and skills this game and wish her a speedy recovery. Shona - you did a superb job in her place on redstick. Katie - we missed yop. Have a nice school trip - and get prepared for the upcoming tour- nament in Kitchener on February 8, 9 and 10.
