tia ETT ES A EE A RT With the dreary winter months upon us, the Borelians Theatre Company is hard at work prepar- ing a comic feast for audiences in this area. After the success of the dramatic The Glass Menagerie, the company's new production is of a much more comic vein, mix- ing farce and moments of high comedy, with touching human elements that will mean something to us all. Micheal Jacobs hilarious play Cheaters, is about just that, cheating couples trying to find love they think is lost to youth, and a struggling younger couple coming to terms with their own insecurities in dealing with love and marriage. Directed by John Lukianchuk, early rehearsals for Cheaters look very promising. No stranger to the Borelians, John is best known for his fine performance as Jack in last season's production of Brighton Beach Memoirs. He has a strong background in directing musicals, yet his most recent credits indicate a flair and love for comedy. Last year he directed The Marriage Proposal for the One Act Festival, and The Melville Boys for Theatre Durham. Returning to the stage after long absences are David Ellis and Vern Vogel, making up the male half of the cheaters. David was last seen in Jitters as the acerbic actor Patrick, and for a special performance as Ben in Death of a Salesman. As well as acting he has directed Borelian productions of Deathtrap, and The Murder Room. Vern Vogel was last seen as the friendly neighbour Charlie in Death of a Salesman, and as the slightly off center King in Nobody Loves a Dragon. In yet another lead role, Louise Lukianchuk returns to the stage as Grace, the slightly paranoid wife of Dave Ellis's Howard. Louise has become very well known in this area with perfor- mances in Death of a Salesman, The Glass Menagerie and Brighton Beach Memoirs. She has a wealth of credits from theatres around the Durham Region. Nor- ma Van Camp got her first taste of acting as the hooker in Death of a Salesman, and later design- ed the superb set for The Glass Menagerie. She has stepped into the role of Monica for Lorraine Chiusolo who was injured in a car accident. Norma's talents and dedication are no secrets to Borelian members, bear in mind, in her first year with the company she produced Brighton Beach Memoirs. As the younger couple struggl- ing with their relationship, two newcomers making their debut for the Borelians fill out these roles. Lynne Atkinson first came to the company's acting workshop in the summer, later doing sound for The Glass Mengerie. She is making her first appearance on the Town Hall stage as Michelle, a young woman deeply in love with the rather confused Alan. Ray Porril, also making his debut with the Borelians, tackles the role of Alan, who is having a hard time making a promise to his love. All is complicated when Alan, Michelle, and their parents sit down to discuss it all, and we learn the cheaters are the kids parents,...with each other!!!
