She was not made from his head to top him. Nor from his feet to be stepped on. She was made from his side to be equal to him. From beneath his arm to be protected by him, near his heart to be loved by him." Just a little poem I am fond of quoting. Don't forget the Women's In- stitute meeting at Doreen's home Wed. at 8 p.m.. Why can't Johnny read? I have only thought of ten good reasons, let's hear yours. The February meeting of Ep- som Utica Social Club will be in the middle of the month, I will have details next week, sounds like pancakes. Last week we welcomed a new '"Epsomite." Nancy and Gerald Hill welcomed the arrival of their fourth child a sister for Kelly, Gregg and Cindy, who have been enjoying visiting Faye Simmonds and Grandma Betty Tapscott. Gerald has been worried because his mother who is holidaying in Florida has been having a spot of trouble with her heart. Luella Bailey is in Uxbridge Hospital. We hope she will be home in a few days. Allan, Joyce, Paul and Bradley Ashton of Oakwood visited his mother Ruth Ashton on Saturday. Please remember Epsom Church next Sunday morning will be at 9 a.m. and Goodwood will take their service at 11. Mr. Tony Howell was a welcome guest at Uxbridge Seniors last week. It was more or less a question and answer period about "driving, road rules, street crossing, etc.. Some senior drivers were not just sure about some of the rules of the road so he answered many questions in a most satisfying way. Thanks Tony, we all enjoyed your talk. Sadie Johnson had a pro- gramme ready for the seniors meeting but could not attend, so do come February 19 for a musical programme. How do you know you are a senior? That's when you sink your teeth into a steak and they stay there. People in the area had a wonderful weekend. On Saturday there was a family sleighing par- ty for about sixty parents and children. A big treat for children who rarely ride behind a horse. At school not so long ago we were talking about the good old days, when one child asked, 'How did farmers till their land and do their work before there were tractors?"' On Sunday, many of us had a happy time when we attended the 85th birthday party for Mrs. Ed- na Kerry in Port Perry. I was so pleased to meet my former neighbours Laura Rogers and Ivan Rogers. Edna must have been delighted to have so many relatives, friends and neighbours come to wish her many happy returns of the day. Wonderful just to be in Canada with no guns, bombs or planes to ruin our happy time. But the bot- tom nearly dropped out of the thermometer last night. Congratulations to Port Perry Star. I went to see your new building. It is a wonderful addi- tion to the town. Snowmobile complaints down There have not been a lot of complaints this winter season about snowmobilers according to councillor Marilyn Pearce. She stated that t there have been some problems in certain . areas, but overall she feels the was from residents of Victorian Village, on the Janu 11-13 weekend who reported snow- mobiles going by their homes between 3a.m.-4a.m. Scugog Township's snowmo- bile by-law prohibits the use of snow vehicles in Port Perry or Prince Albert between the hours of 1a.m. until 7a.m. Charlie Harper, Warden of Port Perry Snowmobile Club was also pleased to say there have been no real problems or complaints about snowmobiles asof yet. He stated the snowmobiling season has been going quite well. The club had groomers out Mr. Harper stated one of the club's main goals is to maintain the trails and keep them in good condition so snowmobilers will use the trails and stay off the streets. Wardens of the snowmobile club were appointed Assistant By-law Enforcement Officers. for the Township of Scugog last January to assist in controlling their own sport. These wardens "A very moving sermon was given by Rev. Shepherd on Sun- day concerning the problems of war and its alternatives. Mrs. Norma Brose lit a candle for peace. We were pleased to welcome Matthew Sommerville of Seagrave who played two love- ly violin solos. Meetings this week are Church Annual, January 22 at 8 p.m. and the Sunday School, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. Don't forget the rescheduled card party this Friday, January 25 at the hall, 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Sharon and Angus Meisner of Greenbank are pleased to an- "Mrs. Rennie of Almer Sunderland. The January meeting of the Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Velma Foster on Wednesday, January 16. After a short business meeting Shirley Lee read a couple of poems and then with the help of three ladies a take-off of the T.V. program "Food For Thought" was en- joyed.
