On January 22 and 23, Mark Mazur will be at Prince Albert to help the students make percus- sion instruments out of found materials such as tin cans, bottle caps, wood blocks, sandpaper and keys. Mark is a freelance percus- sionist in the Toronto area as well as a percussionist for the Windsor and Niagara Symphonies. Also, January 29th, the entire school will be going skating at the arena. The party was held at his home in Fairview Lodge, Whitby. Mr. Sweetman lived on Scugog Island from birth un- til moving to the Lodge with his wife two years ago. He and wife Mabel will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary next month. The Sweetman's have one daughter, Allene Kane of Scugog Island. Thomas Henry Cole Thomas Henry Cole died sud- denly on Thursday, October 4, 1990, of a massive heart attack while doing repair work to the Belfry at Simcoe Street United Church of which he was a member. He was in his 81st year, the on- ly son of George and Rosetta (Harris) Cole. He leaves his wife, Evelyn Genevieve (nee Beacock), five nephews and six great nephews and one great niece in Ontario, a sister Dorothy Phillips of Cheltenham, England and predeceased by two sisters, Ivy and Violet Cole. Tom was born in Gloster Borough, County of Gloster, England and came to Canada in his early teens working for several farmers in the Nestleton area. During the Second World War, he worked in Munitions in Ajax, from there enlisted in the Canadian Infantry Corp and ser- ving overseas in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterra- nean, and Continental Europe, receiving recognition with several medals. In October 1945, Tom returned with the 48th Highlanders and took a carpentry course in Hamilton. He married Genevieve on April 20, 1846, where they re- sided at 241 Mary St., Oshawa in 1953, he built their home on Jones Avenue. Tom worked in the carpentry trade with several con- tractors until he retired. During his church life, Tom was an elder, then he was nominated for the property committee - for the Board of Stewards - where he spent many hours doing carpen- try work at the church throughout his life. The funeral service was held at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry, October 8, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Peter Tink, officiating. He was buried in the Cartwright Union Cemetery, in the Beacock plot. Honorary pallbearers were Ar- thur Bathe and Donald Houlden. Pallbearers were Robert Bell, Donald, Grant, Bryan, Glenn and Gordon Beacock. Friends and relatives were pre- sent from Oakville, Cameron, Oshawa, Orillia, Lindsay, Sunderland, Port Perry, Nestleton, and Blackstock. A lovely lunch was served by the ladies of the Blackstock United Church. Genevieve would like to express her sincere appreciation for the many donations, which were made in memory of Tom, in- cluding flowers and gifts to Sim- coe Street United Church, The On- tario Heart and Stroke Founda- tion, Gideon Bibles, cards and let- ters and continuing support dur- ing this time. - You are invited to a ...
