Allen Siding Tweens defeat Ajax 6-2 The Allen Siding Products Tweens were back on the ice again a week ago last Monday, playing against the Ajax Tween A team at the Pickering Village arena. This team, just 24 hours earlier, had won the gold medal at the Etobicoke Tournament, the same weekend Country Style Donuts hosted our tournament. Linda Payne started the Port team off on the right skate with a goal one minute and two seconds into the game, assisted by Leea Kinnunen and Amy Parliament. With less than four minutes left in the first half, Deanna Dempsey passed the ring between the Ajax goalie's legs; the assist being from Amanda Webb. Ajax scored one in the same period. Into the second half the girls played after a pep talk from Coach Dan, and his assistant, Rick. The girls were just getting into the play when Amy Parlia- ment flew the ring into the oppos- ing net, a pass being from Leea. Amanda made two more beautiful goals with contributing passes from Brandy Harris and Deanna. our goalie, daran Coyne, was simply awesome in net, stopping many of Ajax' menacing shots. Our 'red sticks' or defence girls, namely Kyla McCrae, Vicki Stainton, Lisa Dodd and Heather Lally did a fine job keeping the ring from scoring in the opposi- tion's favour. Brandy and Lisa entertained the fans with their high jump manoeuvres over their teammates' bodies sprawled on the ice. Ajax was only able to score one goal in each period. With less than five game minutes left on the clock Leea passed the ring over to Amy who netted the final goal. The final score was Port Perry 6, Ajax 2. Our next game is Sunday, February 3rd at the Don Beare arena where we face the Picker- ing Tweens. Keep up the good work girls, your high step antics keep the fans entertained and - see you on the ice! a ) Please recycle this newspaper J Post Game Interview - J.C. Clippers defeat Legionnaires 5-3 The Port Perry Legionaires travelled to Stouffville Friday to play their first playoff game. Port got off to a slow start and Stouff- ville capitalized on the opportuni- ty. After the first frame, it was 2-0 for the home team. In the second, Port managed to get only one, but Stouffville could not score, thanks to goalies Bran- don Hammond and Scot Prechitko. Scoring Port's lone goal in the second was Jay Tedway who us- ed his strength and his speed to go wide and cut to the net and beat the goaltender. Onto the third period where Port tied it up at two with a goal from No. 11 Craig Laird, who netted one on a play from Ian McCready. Things started to get worse for the Legion, when the Clippers answered on three goals. It was 5-2 with time dwindling, in the third, Jay King blistered a shot in- to the bottom right hand corner. This game ended up with a 5-3 Clippers victory. Port's second game in their best of 5 series was played Satur- day night at home. The home ice advantage though did not seem to be on the Legionaires side as Stouffville jumped into a 2-0 lead by the midway mark of the se- cond period. But before the period ended, captain Jay Tredway lit up the board for Port with assists going to linesman Jay King. Though refereeing can never solely be blamed for the outcome of a game, Saturday nights incon- sistant and totally unnecessary calls, played a major part in the Legionaires defeat. Playing 3/4 of a game with only 4 players was a definate advantage for the Clippers. Stouffville capitalized on Port's frustrations ending the game 3-1. Port's Scot Pretchitko played an outstanding game between the pipes as he was peppered with shots from the Stouffville opponents. Port's comeback will begin January 28, on their home ice. Be sure to come and watch the Legionaires make history as they come back to defeat the Clippers and take the series. - NOW REGISTERING - 4 Week Evening Course starts February 5th ~ Tuesday & Thursday 6 PM to 9 PM - TWO INSTRUCTORS - Gift Certificates Available Learn to Drive... and Surviv Young Drivers of Canada Training centers coast to coast ALL] e Driver training for all ages -- e Private In-car Instruction e Retraining courses available for commercial drivers e The Young Drivers program is only available at a Young Drivers Center. e Defensive driving you can live with For Information, brochures and course schedules call: 2 BROCK ST.W., UXBRIDGE 852-9705 St emm-- VISA FR I a I ar ------_ a arn pl gp pe b 4 : { {
