Port Perry Lions vs Whitby Auto Wreckers It took some time for anybody to open the scoring due to some nice goaltending by both goalies. At 3:44 of the opening period, Port Perry Lions' Brad Monsma threw a centering pass over to Jeremy Gibson who blasted a low drive in- to the corner to open the scoring. As the first period wound down the goalies had the upper hand, robbing the offence every time they shot the puck. The first period ended 1-0 for the Lions. The second period was the way the first period ended with both goalies in total control. Try as they may the offence couldn't score. Quick glove saves and toe Bantam On Jan. 12, 1991 Port bantams travelled to Ernestown for their annual tournament. Port played their first game against Pickering and walked all over them. Port scored a total of seven unanswered goals and did not let one of Pickering's attempts past the goal line. Scoring for Port was Corey Bricknell with three, Lindsay Parry with two, and Dave 'Pashley and Jeff - Card with singles. Helpers were Sean McEnaney with 3 assists, and Joey Broadworth, Corey Bricknell, Gavin Cochrane, Jeff Card and Mike Sluggett with singles. After this win, Port played Haliburton and defeated the op- position by a score of 2-0. Scoring for Port was Dave Pashley and Corey Bricknell. Assists went to Jeff Card and Mike Sluggett with two and Sean McEnaney and Corey Bricknell with one each. . Port, with two wins under their belts, then advanced to the finals saves was the order of the day. At the end of 2 periods of play the score remained 1-0 for the lions. The third period got underway quickly when Jeremy Gibson hauled the puck into the Whitby zone and with a nice move split the defence and slipped one under the Whitby goalie to go ahead 2-0 at the 9:11 mark. At 7:54 Tyler Wootton slid a nice pass over to Jeremy Gibson who one-timed it into the corner to go ahead 3-0. At 3:07, Jeremy Gibson scored, after circling the net and catching an opening near the post to increase the lead 4-0. With time winding down, Jay Fletcher streaked over the red line and flipped the puck 1's win as they played a very quick Napanee team. Port scored 5 unanswered goals with four cross- ing the line in the last four minutes of play. Scoring for Port was Geravin Sytnyk, Sean Ellis, Sean McEnaney, Jeff Card, and Joey Broadworth. Helping on the goals were Dave Pashley, and Lindsay Parry 2 assists and Cor- ey Bricknell, Joey Broadworth, Jeff Card, Sean McEnaney, and Pete King all with singles. On the following Monday, Port played host to Lindsay. Lindsay, unlike last time, were not a push over as Port defeated the visitors by a score of 4-2. Scoring Port's goals were Sean McEnaney with two, Jeff Card and Dave Pashley with one each. Helpers on the goals were Jeff Card with three assists, Simon Traynor with two, and Corey Bricknell with one. It is unlikely Port will play again this week as they are waiting for Cobourg and Stouff- ville to play it out. Monsnia, B/R meet in Toronto tourney final Woody's and Emmerson squared off in a very spirited af- fair and when the dust settled Woody's won 5-1. Ron Volkins and Rob Mason both had 1 goal and 2 assists, Bruce Woodrow 1 goal and 1 assist, Daulton Snoddon 1 goal, Larry Moarse 1 goal, Neil Woodrow 2 assists, Martin Joncas 1 assist. Bart Wager from Paul West replied for Emmerson's. Game 2 had B&R/Swamp up against Blackstock who came up with a real good effort defeating the Swamper's 2-1. Mike Mitchell from Dale Lown opened the scoring. Tom Wotton from Bill Pratt tied the score at 1. Bill Pratt scored what proved to be the winner unassisted at 9:20 of the second. Congratulations to Monsma Electric who won the Toronto "Masters" Tournament on the weekend beating B&R in the finals 4-2. The game ended and the Lions defeated the Auto Wreckers 4-1. Honcrable Mention for Good Hustle goes to Heather Tredway for Port Perry Lions and Ben Stephenson for Whitby Auto Wreckers. Honourable Mention for good defensive effort for the Lions goes to goalie Shane Savage and Ryan Puckrin in goal for Whitby. Playing in goal for Whitby Auto Wreckers was Ryan Puckrin and Shane Savage played goal for Port Lions. The second game of the day saw the visiting Scugog Lumber team challenging Gord Lewis Motors. For the first half of the first period, both the Lewis and the Scugog Lumber goalies kept the opposition at bay stopping some hard point blank shots. At 4:31 of the first period, Gord Lewis Motors opened the scoring when Jeff Gunn took a nice pass from Ryan Williamson and one- timed it into the back of the net for a Lewis Motors 1-0 lead. At 2:23 David Gainey took a hard shot that the Lewis goalie stopped but Justin Sheehey tap- ped the rebound into the open side to tie the game at one. With thir- teen seconds left in the game. Aaron Levy got up a full head of steam and broke in all alone on the Lewis goalie who made a good move and slid a nice one under a sliding goalie to go ahead 2-1 after one period of play. The second period started quickly when David Gainey fak- YMCA floor hockey It was an exciting game of floor hockey on Mon. Jan. 14 at R.H. Cornish Public School as the Red Wings just edged out the Golden Hawks by a final score of 6-5. The Golden Hawks took an ear- ly lead with a 2-1 score at the end of the 1st period. Golden Hawks goals were scored by Robert Van Harten and Scott Brownson. Red Wings scorer was Adam Youmans. The Red Wings fought back in the 2nd period with 2 goals to the Golden Hawks one. It was a tied game at the end of the 2nd period. Jeff Kane and Greg Langford scored for the Golden Hawks. In a hard fought third period Glenn Thompson scored 2 goals for the Red Wings and Joey Drebit scored 1. Eric Bird scored 2 goals for the Golden Hawks but it just wasn't enough as the game ended Red Wings 6 -- Golden Hawks 5. Good goaltending was shared by Eric Bird, Shawn Van Andel and Matthew MacMaster for the Golden Hawks and by Greg Langford, Joey Drebit and Adam Youmans for the Red Wings. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 22, 1991 -- 23 Atom house league results ed a shot, threw it over to Doug Short, who drifted a hard one over the Lewis goalies shoulder to go ahead 3-1. David Clouthier haul- ed the puck out of the corner and into the slot to Aaron Levy who lost no time in slamming it home. With 2:27 remaining in the second period, David Gainey got the puck back to the point to Mark Sauter and bang, it's 5-1 for Scugog Lumber. In all fairness to the Lewis Motors goalie, at times he was used for target practice un- til his teammates could get back to help out. The second period ended 5-1 for the Lumber Kings. The third period got off to a quick start when David Gainey broke over the Lewis blue line in full stride and, thank you very much, it's 6-1. One minute later at 8:08, David Gainey took a wicked wrist shot from the hash-marks and through heavy traffic in front of the net, it went in the top cor- ner like it had eyes. At 7:19 Aaron Ievv used a defenceman for a screen & it was 8-1. David Gainey set up his pal Justin Sheehey in front and with a good fake made the score 9-1. The Gord Lewis team tried hard to get something going but every dog has its day and today was not to be, as the horn sounded and Lewis Motors was defeated by Scugog Lumber 9-1. Playing in goal for Scugog Lumber was Jonathon Froats and Daniel Lee was in goal for Gord Lewis Motors Honorable Mention for Good Hustle goes to Travis Pickard for the Scugog Lumber boys and Jon- nie Chambers for Gord Lewis Motors.
