If you have a few hours to spare each week and are not afraid of driving in downtown Toronto, you may want to con- sider becoming a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society. The Scugog Branch of the Cancer Society is badly in need of volunteer drivers, especially at this time of the year, said co- week. Of the eight drivers, three h are now on winter vacation in Florida, she explained. The volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to take can- cer patients from Scugog to medical appointments at sever- al hospitals in Toronto. They pick up the patients at their homes, then wait at the hospital before driving the pa- tient back home. The volunteer drivers are paid 22 cents/km. plus any parking charges. Most of the driving involves trips to Princess Margaret Hos- pital, the Bayview Clinic, To- ronto General or Hospital for Sick Children, and the patients are all ages.
