On Wed., Dec. 12 Lake Scugog Lumber was host to Gord Lewis Motors. This game was going to be an interesting one as both teams have been playing play-off style hockey for the last few weeks. Lake Scugog Lumber wasted no time in getting this game into high gear when David Gainey ""blasted" a low shot into the far corner on a nice three way pass- ing play from Aaron Levy and Mark Sauter at the 7:28 mark of the first period. The action went from end to end with both goalies coming up big to shut down the of- fence to keep their team in the game. This was the only scoring play of the period with Scugog Lumber leading 1-0 after one period of play. At 9:52 of the second period Scott Hefferin stole the puck in the corner and passed it back to Paul Shrigley who threw it into the slot to Jeff Gunn who blasted a low shot past a screened goalie to tie the game at one all. At 5:26 David Gainey passed a beauty over to Justin Sheehey who tap- ped the puck into the open corner to give the Lumber men the lead again 2-5 over Gord Lewis Motors. At 2:49 Jeff Gunn scored on one of his pattended rushes after be- ing set up by Paul Shrigley and Ronnie Colvin to tie the game at 2 and close out the scoring for the remainder of the second period. The heat got turned up a notch in the third period when David Gainey scored an unassisted goal to pull his Scugog Lumber team ahead 3-2. At 7:56 Jeff Gunn was in all by himself on the goalie and with a good move caught the goalie going the wrong way to score an unassisted goal to tie the score at 3 all. With the game win- ding down, Justin Sheehey scored an unassisted goal to make the _score 4-3 for Scugog Lumber and once again take the lead. Gord Lewis owned the puck for the last minute of play but couldn't get the puck across the goal line. With just eight seconds left in the game Jeff Gunn grabbed the puck at the Scugog Lumber blue line and was in all alone, and after making a good move on the goalie, the goalie made a good move on him sliding across to give him nothing to shoot at but the goalie himself. The horn went and the game was over with Lake Scugog Lumber defeating Gord Lewis Motors 4-3. In goal for Lake Scugog Lumber was Doug Short and Daniel Lee played between the pipes for Gord Lewis Motors. Honourable mention for good hus- tle for Gord Lewis Motors goes to Corey Branton and for Scugog Lumber Justin Sheehey. Honourable mention for good defensive effort for Gord Lewis Motors goes to Casey Brown and for Scugog Lumber Jonathon Froats. Whitby Auto vs. Port Perry Lions The second game of the night saw these two fine teams, the Whitby Auto Wreckers and the Port Perry Lions Club being well disciplined teams square off against each other. In games gone by, the most patient team has always come out on top. Contrary to games gone by Dave Jamieson and Wayne Hancock got their boys to come out flying and take the play to the other team and keep the pressure on them to force their hand and force turn overs and thus giving themselves the advantage. The Whitby Auto Wreckers lit up the scoreboard first when Chris Orr scored on a nice pass from Adam Brain to put Whitby ahead 1-0 at the 6:09 mark of the first period. Both teams had the play going both ways keeping the goalies busy but the goalies did a good job and keeping the score 1-0 for the remainder of the period. The second period got under- way quickly when little Ben Stevenson scored putting the puck high in the top corner beating an outstretched Lions goalie assisted by Glen McCready on a nice give and go pass. One minute later John Chambers dug the puck out of the corner to Tommy Baker and into the slot to Chris Jamieson who one timed it to go ahead of Port Perry Lions 3-0. With 2:48 left in the second period Shane Savage scored assisted by Tyler Wootton to narrow the gap to 3-1 for the Whitby Auto Wreckers. The clock ran down ending the second period with no sign of the action slowing down. The third period got underway quickly when John Chambers scored unassisted at 14:01 to put the advantage back into the Auto Wreckers favour. Jay Fletcher scored a nice goal from a beauty set up by Brennan Malcolm to make the score 5-1 for Whitby. Jay Fletcher scored his second goal of the game assisted by Luke Newman to put the game out of reach and out of time with the game ending with the score 6-1 in favour of Whitby over Port Perry Lions. In goal for Whitby Auto Wreckers was Ryan Puckrin and in goal for Port Perry Lions was Brad Monsma. Honourable mention for good hustle goes to Jamie Clark for Port Perry Lions and Chris Orr for Whitby Auto Wreckers. Honourable mention: for good defensive effort goes to Adam Brain for Whitby and for Port Perry Lions Kevin Hill. Port Perry Lions vs Lake Scugog Lumber Lake Scugog Lumber of the Atom House League has been im- proving by leaps and bounds and the Port Lions also are one of the Piers of the League have been on a collision course for some time and now it is game time and all the spectators are holding onto their seats because this game should be a good one. Scugog Lumber got the ball rolling at 9:15 of the first period on a nice three way passing play when Alex Upton stole the puck and passed it over to David Gainey who in turn put it onto Justin Sheehey's stick and boom it was 1-0 for Scugog Lumber. This game was fast going end to end but the quality shots were rare due to some nice forecheck- ing by both teams. That was the only scoring play of the period. - At 4:44 of the second period after both goalies had a thorough workout. Aaron Levy fired a bullet to beat the Lions goalie from a nice pass from Kevin Ed- We Now Do Window Tinting! wards. At 4:31 of the second period Scugog Lumber struck again when Jonathon Froats scored assisted by Aaron Levy to make the score 3-0 in favour of Scugog Lumber. Aaron Levy fired a shot into a group of players in front of the net to beat a well screened Lions goalie. With 2:58 left in the second period Port Perry Lions finally got on the scoreboard when Jeremy Gibson scored from the shot assisted by Shane Savage and Jeremy to end the scoring in the second period with Lake Scugog Lumber leading by a score of 4-1. The third period got off to another fast start and the goalies had to be on their toes. At 7:47 of the third, Shane Savage scored from Jeremy Gibson and Nick Kutlik. With 4:32 left in the game Shane Savage scored again from Steven Martin and Adam Mahaf- fy to narrow the gap to 4-3 for Scugog Lumber. The Port Perry Lions made a nice try for a comeback but it eventually proved too steep of a mountain to climb as the horn sounded and Lake Scugog won by a count of 4-3. In goal for Scugog Lumber was Doug Short and in goal for Port Perry Lions Club was Brad Monsma. Honourable mention for goo hustle for Scugog Lumber was Aaron Levy and for the Lions Heather Tredway. Gord Lewis Motors vs Whitby Auto The second game of the day was once again to be a dandy as both these teams are playing some pretty good hockey. With Corey Branton in goal for Gord Lewis Motors and Ryan Puckrin in goal for Whitby this showdown should be a classic. After both teams hammered away at Ryan and Corey no goals were allowed in the first period of play. Both goalies were tested time and time again but both held their grond surrendering nothing. At 5:25 of the second period Whitby Auto Wreckers finally opened the scoring when Bev Stevenson fed the puck ahead to Chris Jamieson who went around the net and from behind the net scored on a wraparound. Whitby Auto Wreckers kept the pressure on but to no avail as the Gord Lewis goalie got stingy again and that was the only scoring play of the period. After 2 periods of play it was Whitby Auto Wreckers 1 and Gord Lewis Motors no score. At 8:30 of the third period Chris Jamieson scored on a nice pass from David Clouthier to make the score 2-0 for Whitby. Whitby Auto Wreckers scored their third goal of the game when Jay Fletcher scored an unassisted goal. With 7:30 left in the game both goalies were hammered but no MOBILE SERVICE GUARANTEED WORKMANSHIP PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 18, 1990 -- 39 Atom houseleague results more goals were let in so the final score was Whitby Auto Wreckers 3 and Gord Lewis Motors 0. Even though the score was 3-0 the suspense was electrifying. Playing in goal for Whitby Auto Wreckers and earning the shut out was Ryan Puckrin and Corey Branton playing in goal for Gord Y Se Lewis Motors. Honourable mention for good hustle for Lewis Motors was Jeff Gunn and for Whitby was Chris Orr. : Honourable mention for good defensive effort for Lewis Motors was Casey Brown and for Whitby Adam Brain. Pee Wee houseleague Larocque 6 Consumer's Gas 3 In the first period of the game, the teams were working hard with good goaltending by Laroc- que's Ryan Diceman and Con- sumer's Ian Johnson. Finally at 7:01 Consumer's started the scoring with a good goal from Terry Jellicoe and assisted by Steve Hiemstra. Larocque made a good comeback and tied the game with a good goal by Steve Elliot assisted by Jeff Whitfield and Jason Vader. The second period belonged to Larocque making it 3-1 with a goal from Glen Epsey assisted by Jason Vader and Jason Blain and another goal scored by Darryl this 1990 season -- Holiday Season. On to the third period, Larocque started off with a nice goal by Jason Vader unassisted. Fighting back, Jason Brown for Consumers got the next goal assisted by Steve Hiemstra and Ryan Larmer. Then Larocque's Glen Epsy getting his second goal of the game assisted again by J eff Whitfield and Brad Strickert and another goal by Darryl Moase passed from Jason Brain, brought the score to 6-2.
