In the first period, the line of Adam J., Kevin C., and Dillan W., displayed some great passing and checking. They had their chances out in front but couldn't buy a goal. In the second period, Daryl's line with Seth G. and Kent J. near- ly saw Port go ahead. Seth made a great check and took a shot but no one could get near the rebound. Later in the period, this same line just missed the open corner. After Port controlling a lot of play, Ux- bridge got a break and scored for the only goal of the game. Mike Heasman played outstanding on defense. We especially enjoyed the fabulous sprawling check out in front of Paul. Great game Mike. The team travelled to Woodville Saturday for tournament action. They met Woodville at 9:00 a.m. and came out on top 2-0. In the first period, Justin Kowalczyk kept the puck in at the blue line and then moved in, beating two opponents and firing the shot. Daryl McE. was credited with the goal and an assist to Kent J.. Danny R. played a strong game for Port on the penalty killing. Early in the second, Justin K. moved the puck out of Port's end. Danny R. picked it up and made a great pass over the line to Casey. Casey moved in and shot. The rebound came out to a waiting Shane Norton who drove home Port's second. Good team- work guys. Congratulations to Justin K. who picked up Port's M.V.P. of the game. Justin played a strong game on defense. Luke Carnaghan received the first shutout of the year for Malmont. Good game Luke. Port's second game was played at 1:00 p.m., against OPS. Although these two teams looked fairly evenly matched, the score ended in OPS favour 5-1. OPS meshed the first two goals. Port scored their only goal with 2 minutes left in the 2nd period. Adam J. worked hard getting the puck out of the corner, out in front to Dillan W. who took a shot. Kevin Cochrane meshed in on a rebound. Kevin was due for a goal after not having any luck this weekend around the net. A good day for Luke between the pipes. Congratulations to Luke receiving the MVP this game for Port. Malmont hosts Lindsay Thurs- day, December 20 at 8:00. Petite A ringette Another tough game for Coun- try Lane was played Sunday, December 16, against the undefeated Markham squad. A fast, action-packed first period saw Cara Vander Slagt score from a perfect 3-point play from Shona Moase and Cindy Vershurren. With our red sticks checking relentlessly and Katie Senyk hav- ing a superb first period, Port Perry went into the second period ahead 1-0. Two quick Markham goals put the Coldwell-Country Lane team on the defensive. Another goal by Markham seemed to put a win out of Port Perry's reach until once again - the combination of Cara and Shona lit up the Port Perry scoreboard. Markham still had time to score againt twice, but Laura Hooker's tremendous drive produced our last goal, unassisted. Girls, the season is picking up momentum now. Fans, this was a great back & forth game. When these teams last met, the Country Lane girls didn't break through their lines at all. With each game the girls are improving, and it is quite apparent that they belong at the Provincial "A" Level. ar gd STE «SE. A I a rr eI. rr Lr
