Kindergarten registration starts Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilson held Christmas for their family on Sunday. Norma and Betty Tapscott have returned from a six week trip to Australia and New Zealand and today Maurice and Marydale Tapscott are arriving home y. The Christmas Concert will be at Epsom Church 7:30 on December 16. On December 24 there will be Christmas Eve Service and Com- munion at Utica Church at 8:30 p.m. Paul Kerry of Montreal was home for the weekend. Shirley and Paul Baster held a family birthday celebration on Sunday in honour of Shirley's father Mr. Jim Jones 80th birth- day. Best wishes from all of your friends. Jennie and Archie Watson held early Christmas for their family on Sunday. Son Fred and his wife who are working in Japan sent a video - a lovely gift. Mrs. Wat- son's brother Mr. A. Cuddia was also present. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Huggins of Orillia were Sunday supper guests at my home on Sunday. Harold and Lucienne Ross of Cochrane were supper and over- night guests with Ray and Dorothy Munro recently. Many friends from the area were pleased to call on Sadie Johnson on Sunday to help her celebrate her 80th birthday on Sunday. : You will be pleased to know Mrs. Steerman is improving following hip surgery in Oshawa hospital. Robt. Ashton was in Sudbury on Sunday for a hockey tournament with Port Perry House League. Mr. and Mrs. R. Farmer of Port Perry, their daughter Lisa _ Farmer of Port Perry and fiancee Ivan Clarke visited the Asling home Wednesday evening. A large number from the area attended the Chamber Choir Pro- gramme at the Presbyterian Church in Uxbridge. - I have attended three other Christmas parties. The '"Lun- cheon Date' at Trinity, beautiful turkey dinner with pie and a very brief programme. I also enjoyed Uxbridge Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner and pro- gramme by the Country Rovers. Then, Sat. night I enjoyed the Bethesda Reach Women's In- stitute Buffet - wonderful people! Wonderful food, wonderful even- ing as all enjoyed the programme led by our hostess and president Mrs. Ross Evans. Thank you, Ted, Ed, Jack and Orvan whose harmonizing really put the icing on the cake. Epsom Public School News Kindergarten pre-registration begins on January 7, 1991. Operation Scugog Epsom P.S. will once again be participating in Operation Scugog so that we may help needy Christmas in families across our community share in the joy of the Christmas Season. Each student will be given the opportunity to bring items of non-perishable food, gifts or gift-certificates. All donations should be brought to the school no later than December 20 and they will be delivered to the Scout Hall in Port Perry on December 21 at 9:00 a.m. Thank you in advance for your support of this wor- thwhile project. On November 12, Entomologist Calvin Davis gave workshops on insects from the Rain Forest in South America. His collection of various insect specimens, in- the Village continues at museum until December 18 Christmas in the Village con- tinues this week at Scugog Shores Museum. On Saturday , December 15, the last Children's Program will be held. The children make such crafts as old fashioned Christmas decorations, that they can take home. Those interested are asked to register ahead, at a cost of $10 per child. Lucien Montiero, an exchange student from Brazil, visited Ep- som P.S. and discussed life as a student in Brazil with the students. Her talk and video of her family and life in Brazil were enjoyed by all. The grade 5/6 class at Epsom was visited by Mr. William Hen- shall in November. He is the By- Law Officer for the Township of Scugog. Mr. Henshall explained his responsibilities in this position and outlined what a by-law is and how it becomes law. We all have a better understanding of what a by-law is and the role they play in the community. Sports It is hockey playoff time at Ep- som P.S. No one wants to lose and after the opening round, only one team was eliminated. Great defence and goaltending has forc- ed a lot of 0-0 tie games. Current- ly, there are 5 teams battling to Jan. 7 get the two spots in the final round. Good luck to all teams. The grade 5 swimming pro- gram for Epsom students will begin January 7, 1991. Many thanks to all the children and adults who contributed to the Unicef success. Our donations will aid Unicef"s many wor- thwhile programs to provide practical assistance to needy Third World Children and their families. Our contribution was $560.95! A special thank you to Beth Wilson and her committee for the time they have spent repairing and upgrading the creative playground at Epsom P.S. Donovan Frazer, Multicultural Consultant for the Durham Board of Education was the guest speaker at the November 27 SAC meeting. He outlined the history of the Durham Board's Multicultural Policy and some in- teresting ways parents and educators could promote respect for one another.
