MolJacks continue their winning streak The Port Perry ModJacks made it three straight wins Sat- urday night as they whipped the Cobourg Cougars 8-2 at the Scugog Arena. It's the first time this sea- son the MoJacks have fash- ioned a three-game win streak, and Saturday's victory pushed them ahead of Cobourg in the Central Junior League stand- ings. But more important was the why they did it. MoJacks Just took control of the game from the opening face-off, and they refused to allow the Cou- gars a chance to getin the game. Al Avery got things rolling at the 1:35 mark with assists to John Lally and Rob Metcalfe. And before the first period was over, the MoJacks had built a comfortable 4-0 lead on goals by Warren Geer, John Harman and Jim Vernon. Vernon's goal was a real gem as he neatly finished off a three-way passing play from linemates Todd Taylor and Ke- vin Gibson. The Cougars took advan- tage of MoJack penalties at the six minute mark with Jeff Wan- namaker pulling the trigger to make the score 4-1. Harman, with his second of the game snuffed out a brief Cougarrally. Brad Menzies clicked on the power play with a rising shot from 20 feet out and Rob Metcalfe made it 7-2 late in the frame after he cut in from the point to take a pass near the side of the net. ModJacks cruised their way through the final period with the only goal coming off the stick of defenseman Trevor McIntyre, playing his first .game in a Port Perry uniform. MoJacks were never in trouble in this game. They went about their business in cool, \ precision-like fashion, taking full advantage of their scoring chances. Drew Campbell played the Bantams, The Port Perry Bantam No. 1's played host to a team from Port Hope on Monday, Nov. 19. Port Hope got on the board first, the first of five goals. Port Perry didn't score until the second period when Sean McEnaney scored at the 4:38 with Netminder Drew Campbell gets ready to smother this loose puck in Junior C action Saturday at the Scugog Arena. Backed by solid goaltending by Campbell and Dwayne Mackie, the MoJacks had little trouble defeating the visitors first 40 minutes, facing 23 shots in the MoJack cage. He made his best stop in the first period, getting the trapper on a close-in deflection. Dwayne Mackie finished the game stopping all nine shots thrown his way in the third period. MoJacks took ten minors, and the Cougars took eight. SLAPSHOTS: In other Junior C action over the week- the assist going to Dave Pashley. Port then scored with twenty seconds left in the second. It was a power-play goal by Duane Em- pringham from Jeff Card. Port Hope then scored again in the third followed by a goal by Sean McEnaney at the 1:47 mark end, Bowmanville nipped Ux- bridge 4-3, Little Britain tripped Lakefield 7-3 and Ajax 4-3. The ModJack victory Satur- day evening came on the heels of wins the previous weekend over Bowmanville and Little Britain. MoJacks added defense- man Trevor McIntyre to the line-up last week. He's an 18- year old who saw action this season with the Oshawa Le- with assists from Scott Wylie and Mike Sluggett. Port Perry then travelled to Port Hope on Sunday, November 25. Port played a better game but still came out winless. Port Perry was winning in the first with a goal by Sean Ellis at PPHS girls basketball teams claim silver medals at DYSSA The Senior and Midget girls teams from PPHS ad- vanced to DYSSA basketball championships over the week- end, but both had to settle for the silver medals. In the tournament played Saturday at Roberts H.S. in Oshawa, the PPHS Senior girls edged Newmarket 45-41 in the gemi finals with Terry Childs leading the way on the score- sheet with 17 points. That win put PPHS into the final, but Brock High School prevailed with a 67-45 victory. For PPHS, Gretchen Cor- nish wag the top scorer as she netted 23 points. It was much the same story for the Midget girls squad. Laurie Dale led the scoring in the semi finals with 14 points as PPHS defeated Denison of York Region by a score of 43-18. But in the championship game, it was Brock H.S. coming away with the gold medals with a 43-24 victory over PPHS. Karen Kett led PPHS in this one with 13 points. Gold would have been very nice, but congratulations to both teams for their silver med- al finish in the Durham-York championship round. 8-2 and pushed their winning streak to three games. After an inconsistent start to the season, MoJacks have looked very impressive lately and are starting to move up in the Central League standings. (see story for all the detalls) gionaires. They have three tough games coming up this week, starting Friday night in Lake- field. On Sunday, December 2, they host Ajax at the Scugog the 4:35 mark with assists to Cor- ey Bricknell and Dave Bourgeois. The second goal was scored by Geravin Sytnyk at the 1:52 mark with assists from Dave Pashley and Gavin Cochrane. Sytnyk, a player brought over from Oshawa, scored the last two Arena for a 7:30 faceoff and on Monday will travel to Cobourg to take on the Cougars. Playing with a great deal of confidence, the MoJacks look like they have put the early sea- son jitters and lack of consisten- cy torest. - With three straight wins under the belt and three games coming up this weekend, there is no better time to take a seri- ous run at the Central League standings.
