£5, The Scugog Cancer Soclety "Big Band Bash" was a wonderful success Friday evening at the Islander. Harold and Norma Forder (second from left) were the lucky winners of the food basket donated by Port Perry IGA. At left in photo Is Mayor Howard Hall. At right are Islander owner Doreen Slater (who donated the hall) vocalist Mary Body, and Alex Ingram, band leader and Cancer Society rep. All proceeds from this Third Annual Big Band Bash are turned over to the Cancer Society. Big Band sounds a joy to hear On Friday, November 23, the Kawartha Big Band played another evening of Glen Miller Style music for the Scugog Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society at The Islander hall on Scugog Island. Once again we enjoyed those beautiful melodies we learned to love so well a while ago, such as, In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood for Love, and many more. This group dees an ex- cellent job of bringing back the beautiful sounds of yesterday. This year, in addition to George Timms, and Bill Sehley, our regular vocalists, we had a most welcome addition in Mary Body a newcomer to Port Perry who sang with a sultry sweetness en- joyed by all. Mary took time off from her busy day in her store, In- gredients Unlimited, to rehearse some grand old favourites such as "Sentimental Journey" and "I Don't Know Why." The band had other exciting surprises for us too. Bruce Ger- row and Bob Cawker of Port Perry jumped in at the last minute and performed splendid- ly throughout the evening, par- ticularily in the Dixieland portion. As usual everyone had a toe tapping good gime. The Kawar- tha Big Band does have something for everyone in their extensive repertoire of best loved songs of the Glen Miller era. The members of the Scugog Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society are delighted to have the support of this entertainment group who give so willingly of their time and talents. Through their efforts, a great many people have benefitted through help received from the Cancer Societies various programs. If you are interested in having this group play for your club etc. in the new year please contact Alex Ingram 416-985-8967 or Garnet Powel 705-524-5764.
