Juveniles win at Eimvale fournament The Key-Bar Office Equipment Juveniles put forth two solid ef- forts to win the "A" division against Thornton at Elmvale this past week-end. The final game was very enter- taining with both teams playing fast hard hitting hockey. The game remained scoreless until midway through the second period, when Thornton scored their first goal. Then at the 7:03 mark of the second period, Port scored on a nifty three way pass- ing play by Gerry Douma from Scott Porter and Mike Sorley. The second period ended in a 1-1 tie. At the 10 minute mark of the third period, Port scored on the powerplay to go ahead 2-1 on a nice goal by Mike Sorley from Mark Barkey and Andrew Steele. This goal was short lived as Thornton came right back with a powerplay goal of their own just two minute later to tie it up again. Pee Wee B Scugog Overhead Door Pee Wee B's attended their first tour- nament of the season in Manvers on Saturday. In the first round they played the St. Peterborough. It was evident from the opening faceoff that our gang had come to play hockey. Port drew first blood mid-way through the first when Brad Shanley fought tenaciously for the puck and set up Todd Parry in front. This one goal lead stood up un- til midway through the second when Peterborough finally tied the score. There was no further scoring the rest of the way, giving Port the win having last held the lead. An excellent effort from all hands in this one, with particular emphasis on the hustle of Kirk Swain and Greg Thompson. Their two-way efforts haltéd many St. Paul's scoring chances. Game #2 saw us matched against the host squad from Manvers. This proved to be our best effort so far this year. The fans sure got their money's worth as end to end action was the order of the day. "The Doors' opened the scor- ing early in the first on a slick ef- fort by Kevin Gray from Brad Shanley on the powerplay. Manvers was turned away un- til midway through the second riod when they managed to tie it up. The goaltending of Jamie Trick and Dylan Ferguson was particularly strong in the contest as they sent Manvers away frustrated time and again. Port pulled ahead before the se- cond buzzer and took a one goal lead into the third, setting the Paul's team from OHA JR. 'C' HOCKEY SCUGOG ARENA - PORT PERRY 8:00 PM - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24th, 1990 But with only two minutes left in the game, Thornton took a roughing penalty, and Port's powerplay went to work again. Mark Barkey scored what prov- ed to be the winner on a neat setup from Jamie Menzies and Andrew Steele, with just over a minute left in the game. Although Port bad- ly outshot Thornton, especially in the third period, Port's goalkeeper Jamie Brown had to make some key stops throughout the game. Although only fourteen minutes were taken in the game by both teams, penalty's played a big fac- tor in the outcome. On Saturday afternoon Port ad- vanced to the final on a victory over Bracebridge by a score of 5-2. Brad Bricknell held a hot hand in goal in this game. The Key-Bar Juveniles next tournament will be Saturday, December 1, in Brighton. report stage for an exciting finale on a goal by Tim Fitzpatrick from Chris Drury. The action moved from end to end with good chances at both nets. Manvers pulled their goalie late in the game, trying to tie the score but Port slammed the door to win 2-1 and advance to the championship final. Special mention to the defence in this one as their penalty killing skills were put to use when we were two men short on one occa- sion. Jeff Jamieson, Jason Logan, Chris Drury and Rob Gracie are to commended. The gritty determination of forewards Terry Jellicoe, Brad Morton and Matt Phillips also helped Port put this win in the books. In the championship game we came up against a big squad from Sunderland. They had not been scored upon to this point in the tournament and proved to be a very formidable opponent. These guys could do it all but "the Doors" hung tough to drop a 5-0 decision. Jamie Trick, who played in net the final half kept them off the score sheet - a truly awesome per- formance for which he won M.V.P. for Port Perry. Brad Morton found the going particularly tough when he tangl- ed with Sunderlands' burley cap- tain along the boards and separated his shoulder. He should be back in action in 2-3 weeks Hurry back Brad! The action this weekend was by far the strongest and most consis- tent so far. The team played as a team and everyone worked hard on every shift. All members can be commended on a superb effort.
