36 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 23, 1990 Pineridge Sports Atom 2 team update The Pineridge Sports Atom #2 team, being coached this year by Tom Chambers, Doug Moynes and Richard Parliament, played two games over the past week. On Thursday (18th) in league action they hosted the team from Orono. This game was action all the way with Port jumping out to "a 3-0 lead in the first period. The visitors came back with two quick goals in the second, but Port dominated throughout for a 6-2 lead after two periods. It was much the same in the third with a final score of 9-3. Leading the scoring parade for Port were Scott Jeffrey and Dan- ny Lyons with 2 goals, Adam Hobbs, Justin Halligan, Blayne Kinnunen, Scott Sanderson and Jason Heyworth with singles. Assisting on these fine plays were the talents of Glen McGready and Jamie Strickert with 3 each. Single assists to Dan- ny Lyons, Wyatt Park, Scott Harper and Kevin Cochrane. Our strong net minding was performed by Heather Tredway and Jon Chambers, on Saturday in an exhibition game against the Oshawa Bruins of the L.N.H.L. in Little Britain, our Atom #2's got off to a slow start in the first period trailing 2-0. As action resumed in the second period of play the team suddenly came to life with strong performances all round. Starting off the Pineridge teams comeback was Scott Sanderson assisted by Justin Halligan. After the Bruins made it 3-1, Pineridge came back quickly with four unanswered goals scored by Kevin Cochrane, Danny Lyons and a blazing pair by Justin Halligan. Assists to Jamie Strickert, Scott Jeffrey and Adam Hobbs. Late in the third period the Bruins managed to score quick goals to end the game in a final 5-5 tie. This was one-of the teams best efforts to date, with fine defensive work from Colin Laird and Ryan Moynes. lan Parliament as always worked very hard in the corners and played a strong game. Keep up the good work everyone. Novice 'Rep' League Pearce Auctions of Port Perry and the visiting Stouffville team treated fans to an exciting see- saw hockey game on Oct. 19. After exchanging goals in the first period, the visitors poured on the pressure and jumped into a 3-1 lead. Our boys didn't become discouraged however; and with some determined play scored 3 consecutive goals to take the lead 4-3 heading into the third period. With less than a minute left in the game, Tony Rossi scored on a goalmouth scramble for Stouff- ville and the final score wa a 4-4 tie. Tyler Markle, Brad Miller and Chris Kesswell, played well for the visitors. Scoring for Port Perry were Bob Cowie, Greg Bruton, Jeremy - Heyworth and Brad Johnston. Stouffville opened the scoring early in the game. Half way through the first period Dillan Weber found Seth Gray open out in front and fed him a perfect pass. Seth wasted no time blister- ing it into the top corner. With 2 minutes left in the 1st Daryl: McEnaney dug the puck out from behind the net and put it out in front. Mike Morden handled it and Derek Leeming put it behind the goalie. It was end to end action with both goalies playing outstan- ding. Paul Shrigley was between the pipes for Port. - These guys travelled to Lindsay Saturday and came home with a hard fought tie 3-3. Port got on the board first when Adam Jones kept the puck out in front of Lindsay's net. Shane Nor- ton was there and after three pokes at it finally slid it past the goalie's stick. Shane Norton scored his second of the game put- ting the puck in the open side late in the 2nd period. Mike Morden and Casey VanShagen earning assists on the play. Lindsay came back with 3 unanswered goals making the score 3-2. With 26 seconds left in the game, Daryl McEnaney off the face off, fired it past the goalie to tie it up. Although they went down to defeat the team demonstrated excellent. skating skills and good sportsmanship.
