Cornish cross country runners earned the right to advance to the Durham Finals, after an impressive showing at last Monday's Area Meet held at Dagmar. In the team competition, sev- en of Cornish's nine teams ad- vanced to the Durham Finals. Teams must have four or more runners per age group, and must finish first or second to go § ON. The results of the team com- petitions were as follows: 8- year-old boys, second, 10-year- old girls, second, 11-year-old girls second, 11-year-old boys, second, 12-year-old boys, first, 13-year-old girls, second, and 13-year-old boys first. Individual runners must place in the top eight to be eligi- ble to goon to the finals. The fol- lowing runners qualified on this basis: Amy Chapman, On October 20, the Petite B - I.G.A. ringette team played their first game of the season. The team hosted Ennismore in Manvers Arena. Ennismore opened the scoring with five seconds into the game. Soon Port's nervousness and anx- iety disappeared and the 1.G.A. girls dominated the rest of the game. In goal for Port we saw newcomer Kristie Aldridge play her first game in net. With lots of goal-scoring and passing all of Port's team members shared in the goal total. Welcome to: our first year players, Jenny Pashley, Laura Ranger, Geni Taylor and Kristie Aldridge. Jennifer Elliot opened the scor- ing for Port Perry. She played a strong game which allowed her a double hat-trick. Continual hard work by Jenny Lane and Aman- da Wakeford and Geni Taylor earned them a hat-trick too. Roun- ding out our defense play was . Diane Vanderligt and Leanne Wakeford who assisted with team goals. : The girls played a penalty free game. This was their first victory of the season. Come out and catch some great ringette action. Our next leaque game is Wed., Oct. 24 in Bobcaygeon. This will be the girls first away game.
