The newly formed Port Perry Sparks met for the first time last Thursday afternoon. Lo This Is an organization for five year old giris that helps prepare them for Brownles and Guides, and this is the first time Port Perry has had a Sparks group. Not present for photo was leader Melissa Dawson. Sr's enjoy Harvest Bingo The Senior Citizens Club 101 met at the Latcham Centre, Wed. October 10 at 2 p.m. President Bill Harper opened the meeting and O'Canada was sung, followed by a minute silence in memory of Eva Hodgson. Mrs. Hodgson was in her 103rd year so has not been at our meetings for some time. Mary Cannon read the minutes from last month's meeting and Norm gave the Treasurer's Report which showed a hefty balance from the bazaar. Bill thanked the members who donated baking, crafts, etc. to make the bazaar a great success, also thanks to the merchants of Port Perry for their help by giv- ing fruit baskets and vouchers and gifts to help with the draw. The winners were Ruby Slute, Port Perry - $100; T. Sinnott, Manilla - Groceries; Phil Goreski, R.R. 3, Port Perry - doll; Marilyn Tripp, Port Perry - fruit basket, Bill Harper, Port Perry - $20 voucher; B. Spraque, Oshawa - pictures, Anne Walker, Seagrave - towels, D. Carsinell, Port Perry - stuffed dog and Shelley Dia- mond, Port Perry, Dorothy Robichard, Port Perry, S. Cards. Also Albert Terry of Port Perry was the winner of a huge basket of groceries. Everyone enjoyed the races last week. The sun canie out, and really warmed us up, after the races Scarboro Town Centre was the next stop for supper. Tickets are on sale for a dinner theatre at Herongate Barn, Nov. 9th. The Play is '"When the Cats Away." Price: $33.50 per person which included bus fare, dinner & theatre. Florida - 3 weeks, March 4-25. Bookings are taken now, so don't be disappointed. Eva Hunter read the euchre report and Edna Beckett an- nounced the Sr. Choir will sing at Greenwood Church, Oct. 30 and Port Perry Presbyterian Church Oct. 28. . The Looney winners were Bette Barnett, Mac Wybrow, Marguerite Beacock, Eileen Hern and Dorothea Koch. The meeting closed with Prayer followed by a Harvest Bingo. Thank you to the members who donated vegetables and fruit from their gardens. At 5 p.m. a pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all. Newton Reed of Uxbridge will be our guest speaker at the Nov. 4 anniversary service at Ep- som. Also giving us for his first service will be Rev. Jim Bewell, our new pastor. We will welcome him with a social gathering, with refreshments following the service. October 28 will be our last ser- vice with Rev. Nancy Waterman at Utica. We have been very hap- py with her ministery and wish her the best of future success and happiness. Don and Linda Card, Jeffrey and Linsey of Port Perry were Sunday visitors with his parents Al and Norine Card on Sunday. Rod and Marlene McKay, Jason and Chilio visited with Gerald and Nancy Hill on Sunday. The boys are participating in the World Youth Council. Mr. and Mrs. Hill also had two boys from C.W.Y. with them for the summer. Happy second birthday to Cyn- thia Hill Monday, Oct. 22. Best wishes to Don and Stella Asling who celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Oct. 19. Maurice and Marydale, Nor- man and Betty Tapscott attended the Christening service for wee Peter who is grand-nephew for Norm and Maurice. The service was at Leaside United Church on Sunday morning. Beth Catherwood of Oshawa is visiting her mother Mrs. Ruth Ashton for a few days. There will be a Masquerade party at Epsom church for all children. The Youth Group are helping the S.S. Teachers to enter- tain with songs and games. Mothers please send finger food. This takes place Friday Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.. The Social Club party at the church last Friday evening was well attended and we had a hap- py time playing games. A nice parting gift was accepted by Nan- cy and Glen. We are so sorry to see them leave. On October 28 our congregation is responsible for a Service at the Uxbridge Health Care Centre at 2:30 p.m.. Come if possible and let the residents know you like to share this hour with them. Our sympathy to Marg Couper- thwaite and family in the loss of her husband last week. On Saturday there was a very large and successful sale at the home of the late Tom Carter. Cherished memories of Thanksgiving Day This years Thanksgiving Weekend may be over, but cherished memories of special oc- casions and family or friend gatherings are still with us as we report. Although Allen and Beth Mar- tyn travel extensively, they are also at home for much entertain- ing. The Mar- tyns had a full house over Thanksgiving as they also were pleased to have Beth's family Mr. and Mrs. David Bogart with their family of Toronto. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bigham and family of Ottawa and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bigdon of Everton. We are sorry to hear that Allen Martyn has been experiencing some physical problems for which he spent a recent week in the Wellesley Hospital for tests but was unable to determine the cause at present.
