UCW and hubbys host Villa birthday party A Delightful Open Installation For Blue Ray With 160 Sisters and Brothers on hand from various Chaplets ; Blue Ray, No. 238, O.E.S. had a Banner night. The Installation was held, October 11, in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry, to honour the newly elected Worthy Matron Sister Elsa Bongard and Worthy Patron Brother Fred Alton, and their corp of Officers, for the "Love and Happiness Year, 1990-1991." The Chapter opened in regular form under the leadership of Sister Jane Galbraith, assisted by Brother Alastair Newsome. Con- ductress Laura Alton had the pleasure to escorting many dignitaries to the East, where they were given a warm Blue Ray welcome by the Matron & Patron. After year end business was completed by Sister Jane; she and Brother Alastair voiced ap- preciation for the terrific support given by Officers and members during the Year. The Officers retired for a brief recess. Family and friends of the incoming Matron and Patron were welcom- ed into the Chapter. The Installation Ceremonies were conducted in a highly effi- cient manner by the Installing Board. During the evening two lovely solos: were rendered beautifully by Sister Linda Clements of Laurel Chapter, ac- companied by P.D.D.G.M. Sister Betty Dowden of Pickering, the able organist for the evening. At the closing of the ceremonies, the newly installed Worthy Matron, Sister Elsa Bongard, expressed warmest thanks to Officers & members of Blue Ray for the honour conferred upon her, and Legion update by Paul Saulnier On October 27 Branch 419 Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual bazaar, starting at 11:00 AM at the Legion Hall. Members are reminded to pick up their 1990 cards to make room for the 1991 cards. "Trouble Shooters" will provide the musical entertain- ment for a 50/60 dance on No- vember 3. At the general meeting Oc- tober 16, Branch 419 President Norm Budd welcomed several new members: Doug Blain, Wendy Blain, Carol Wilson, Ivan Guest and Raymond Wil- liams. After Chapter closed a delicious buffet was en- joyed; arranged and convened by Sisters Judy Mitchell and Noreen Middlemiss; with D.D.G.M. Sister Margaret Jeffrey & Sister Elsie Wilbur pouring tea and cof- fee for the large assembly. A gala evening for Blue Ray! This con- cludes a memorable occasion in the history of the Chapter. Birthday Party Celebration The Nestleton U.C.W. and husbands were delighted to pre- sent a program at the Port Perry Villa on Wednesday afternoon to while away an hour of pleasure and fun for the residents. After completing the novel, humorous entertainment the U.C.W. members served a beautifully decorated birthday cake in honour of four birthdays; name-. ly; Maud Stell, Irene Philip, Tony Mark and Stanley Ewen, and Happy Birthday was sung. Love- ly, colourful gifts were distributed to those celebrating. A very hap- py occasion! Pleased to see some twenty or so residents present for the celebration. Scripture reader was Dennis Yellowlees - with lessons from Ruth 1: 1-9a & Matthew 22: 15-22. Carol Mairs was the able pianist and the quartet sang a lively number 'Come Let Us Sing."' Very enjoyable! The minister told the children an in- teresting story; before going downstairs to classes with Superintendent Chris Davis. The offering was taken by Henry Stainton and Ken Weir.
