Commissioner of Planning Mother Jackson's opens expanded world class food processing plant Kenneth F, Jackson dedicat- ed last Thursday, October 18th to his mother at the official opening of Mother Jackson's Open Kitchens latest and larg- est expansion. About 60 guests were present for a brief ceremony and ribbon cutting at the newly expanded Simcoe Street plant in Port Perry. "This company was named after my mother, who showed me how to make pastries and fillings. I'm sure she would be proud if she could see this to- day," Mr. Jackson said. During his brief address Ken, as he is known to his friends, said that the opening of the expansion was a big day in the history of the company, but also for the staff and man- agement. Ken, the founder of Mother Jackson's joked that he is now Mother Jackson's Open Kitchens officially opened their expanded facility on Simcoe known as the Vice Chairman, Board of Directors. "Sounds like that's the title they give you when you're put out to pas- ture", he said with a smile. But Ken's business partner and friend Tom Jermyn said that there was no question that Mother Jackson's would not exist today without the hard work and dedication of Ken Jackson. "In 1978 we started the com- pany sharing a vision of creat- ing a world class food process- ing plant", he said. Mr. Jermyn explained the expansion was the culmina- tion of many years of planning and it now enables them to competein the world market. "Competition is on a global scale now, and to be successful you either play at that level or Pop play at all," Mr. Jermyn said. a MOTHER JACKSS OPEN Both men had praise for Ken's son David Jackson, who spent months travelling the world to select the right equip- ment for the manufacture of their many products. Mayor Howard Hall cut the ribbon to officially open the ex- panded Mother Jackson's plant, and congratulated the management and staff on the new facility. * He said that company has al- ways been a good corporate cit- izen in Port Perry, taking part in many fund raising and com- munity projects. Following the ceremony, tours of the new facility were conducted for the guests and samples of some of their 60 products which include meat pies, diet deserts, butter tarts etc. were served. on 03 Street, Port Perry last Thursday.
