-- Bowling in Port Perry Lots of fun The spoit of bowling attracts men, women and children of all ages. The bowling spirit is alive and well in Port Perry. Centen- nial Lanes in Port Perry cur- rently boasts 475 bowlers, bowling out of 16 different Jeogues J There are bowlers aged from five years old up to 75 years of age who enjoy the sport on a weekly basis. Groups gather at the lanes for a night or afternoon of so- cializing. Many say it is a pleas- ant diversion from their hectic lives, while getting a little exer- cise at the same time. Although the lanes are booked for leagues for the ma- jority of the week, there is still time for those to enjoy some - open bowling. There is open bowling on Sat- urdays and Sundays at a cost of 2 per game for adults, and 1.50 for children. Currently there are 15 leagues including: Monday night ladies, Tuesday afternooon ladies, Tuesday night mixed, Tuesday night Mens, Wednesday afternoon, and night ladies, Thursday night mens, mixed, Saturday, Sunday Youth Bowling, and Sunday night mixed. Other leagues are: Monda afternoon Uxbridge Hig School students bowl, Monday afternoon Policepersons league, and Central Seven bowls on Monday nights. The leagues run from Sep- tember until May. This past year a summer league was im- plemented on Wednesda nights for mixed bowlers of all ages, which went over quite well. A popular attraction at the lanes is the birthday package. Children bowl for $5 each which includes two hours of bowling, along with hotdogs, and drinks. The children may Robinson. Their second league game saw them in end to end action with Lindsay in Port. Since taking over Centennial Lanes in June of last year, own- ers Frank Hammond, and Car- ol Anthony, have renovated the entire bui ding. The lanes are a pleasure to bowl at with new paint, carpet, washrooms, show booth, and lighting. The lanes were alsore- surfaced prior to the last year's season. The latest endeavor of the owners, this past summer, was the addition of four apartments over the top of the alley. They have seen business steadily pick up since taking over. Two leagues, Friday, and Sunday nights, were added, as well as the Youth Bowling. The YBC is in its second year, and alone has 75 bowlers. Overall, Carol stated the bowling alley is packed over the winter months. The bowlers keep the lanes busy, and there is also a great deal of business brought in with the billard ta- bles, and video machines. Atoms look for first win their shots haven't paid off. "ATTENTION SNOWMOBILERS" PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 16, 1990 -- 35 Atomslose 2-1 The hockey season had com- menced for the Atom #2 team sponsored by Pineridge sports. Their first exhibition game against the Oshawa Blackhawks proved to be an exciting start to the season. Pineridge jumped out to an ear- ly 2-0 lead on goals from Justin Halligan and Jamie Strickert. Assisting on Justin's goal was Danny Lyons and Wyatt Park, with Danny picking up the lone assist on Jamie's goal. The Blackhawks fought back with three straight goals to take the lead, Danny Lyons tied it up late in the second period assisted by Justin Halligan and Blayne Kinnunen. Unfortunately the Blackhawks came on in the third period for a . final 5-3 victory. | On Saturday the 13th, Pineridge's first league game was against Stouffville. 0. Again an exciting game with end to end play. Stouffville took an early lead in the first period, and made it 2-0 in the second. Port pushed hard the entire game but were constantly stopped by a hot Stouffville goalie. Danny Lyons finally got one back for Port, assisted by Jamie Strickert, but Stouffville hung on for the 2-1 win. Good performances by Heather Tredway and Jon Chambers in net. Keep up the good work team, the wins will come. Young Tykes looking great Once again we have a great looking group of Tyke Hockey players and the coaches are work- ing and moulding these boys and girls into some dynamite players for the Port Perry Minor System, all of them looking like possible N.H.L. candidates. Special mention going out to Matt Eade, Kellen Jackson, Justin Moffatt, and Shane Jeffrey for doing a super job on the Nuts About Chocolate team.
