They are being coached by Gary Geer, Ed Teno, and Jim Burnett. The team promises to have an exciting year. The Legion led off their season in Stouffville. Port _ threatened to put this game away early with three first period goals. On a goalmouth scramble Daryl Bourgeois managed to slide one through the five hole for the first goal of the Legion's season, with Lefort picking up the assist. Tredway gave Port a 2-0 lead with a wrist shot on a nice setup from Geer. Shrigley came through minutes later ripping a shot off the post and into the net. On to the second period where Tredway got his second of the game off a feed from Laird. Port's fifth and final goal came from Lefort who found twine while being hauled down from behind. Nice effort and a wonder- ful goal. Stouffville managed 3 goals but Port came out on top winning their first league game. Prechitko played strikingly well between the pipes. For the Legion's second game Port Perry was hosting Lindsay. Early in the first period Lindsay grabbed the lead. Less than two minutes later King tied the game with a low shot from the blue line set up lovely by Zaparanuik and Lefort. Port Perry struck again in the first frame. Jeremy Geer pop- ped one home from the slot area on a pass from Laird. The Port team got some insurance late in the first with a beautifully set up play by Geer and Tredway, scor- ing was Laird. Port gained possession down in their own end with the line of Shrigley, Chambers and Hobb's breaking out, bulging the twine was Shrigley assisted by Chamber's. Onto the second period where Port managed to beat the Lindsay net minder twice. The scoring came from the sticks of Zaparanuik and Tredway and col- lecting assists were Laird and Geer. The third period was much the same as Port outscored Lindsay once again. Scoring was Clarke as he circled the net and snapped a wrister by the man between the pipes. The other two goals came from Tredway and Zaparanuik * with assists from Geer, Lefort and King. Goalies Dylan Ferguson and Scot Prechitko were very suffi- cient in making their stops in- between the metal bars. Good game guys. The Legions third game was against a tough organization from Bowmanville but Port had a little difficulty taking them on. After C omprehensive, Kk nowledgeable, I. ocal, Y Ours. CELY 210 the first period Bowmanville had a 2-1 lead. The lone marker in the first came from Bourgeois on a nice backhand. Assisting was Tredway and Geer. Onto the second period where Port managed to only beat the tough Bowmanville goalie once. Scoring was Tredway from Bourgeois. After the second period the score was 3-2 for Bowmanville. In the third period the opposi- tion scored first but Port came right back with King blistering a slap-shot from the blue line with Tredway assisting. The goalie never saw the puck with Laird in front of the net annoying the goaltender. Port managed to get a couple more goals, scoring was Bourgeois who put out a nice ef- fort to split the defence and go upstairs with the frozen piece of volcanized rubber. Also scoring was Tredway who deked the whole team making many fancy moves including one on the goalie. Both goals were unassisted. Two beautiful goals! It seemed every time Port scored Bowmanville would answer with one of their own. Port was applying the pressure in the last minutes of the game when they were horned off by the rink rats of Bowmanville. Next scheduled game in this Friday as Port Perry host Stouff- ville at 9:15 a.m. Novice action The first game of the day saw David's Hair Styling go up against Port Perry Printing. David's came out flying and kept the pressure on for the whole first period, outscoring the Printers 3-0. In the second, Port Perry Prin- ting regrouped and the action was fast and even with the goalies tested many times. David's got two quick goals at the end of the period to take a 5-0 lead into the third. Port Perry Printing scored two goals in the first minute of the third to cut Davids lead to three goals. The balance of the game was even with both teams scoring two more goals each. Scoring for Port Perry Printing were Justin Heyworth, Beau Jolicoeur, David Justinski and Matthew MacMaster with assists going to John Bacon, Chris Med- ford and Scott Cunningham. David's goal scorers were Wade Ritchie, Tim Wray, Ken Ellis, Devin Symes and Michael MacLennan with assists to Leigh McClymont, Devon Symes, Tim Wray, Ray Seager and John Sanders. John Burnett played goal for Port Perry Printing and Sean Fletcher was David's goalie. Atom Houseleague Gord Lewis Motors 9 Lake Scugog Lumber 2 Fans saw a fast paced game right from the opening faceoff. Gord Lewis Motors opened a lead early on a goal by Jeff Gunn. This seemed to rock the Lake Scugog Lumber team and Gord Lewis jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period, as Jeff Gunn potted his second and Jeremy Gibson netted his first. But the second period was a dif- ferent story. Kevin Edwards of Lake Scugog fired one home to narrow the margin to 3-1, and Lake Scugog continued to press. Not the last we'll see of this budding rivalry. 4-2 loss On October 12, the Port Perry Pearce Auctions Rep. team lost 4-2 to a well disciplined Bowman- ville team. The teams played on even terms in the first two periods with the score being tied 2-2 to start the third period. The inex- perience of the Port Perry team, however, resulted in the winning goals for Bowmanville in the third period. Ian Sinclair (2 goals), Blake Ayleworth (2 goals) and Darren Powell (goalie) led the Bowman- ville team. Greg Bruton scored 2 goals for Port Perry, one of which was a beautiful deke-move on the oppos- tion goalie. Chad Lance and Jeremy Heyworth for our offense, as well as, Kam Cooper and Aaron Chambers on defense, all showed improving play, as the Port Perry players get to know their positions better.
