Fern and Clayton Pellett of Rochester, N.Y. spent afew days --with Bill and Ruth Marconi and thoroughly enjoyed the fiddle Contest on Saturday evening. While here they also renewed ac- quaintances with Vernon and Vera Asselstine, other residents of the park in Florida where they spend winters. Glad that Jean Mahaffy is feel- ing better after surgery. Fair board members are reminded of the annual District 4- meeting that will be held in Lind- say on Thursday, October 25 dur- ing the day from 9:30 - 4:00. As a follow-up from prizes won at Blackstock - Eileen McLaughlin, Cindy Werry, Wilma VanCamp and John Werry were invited to participate in the Apple Pie Baking Contest at Black Creek Pioneer Village on Sunday. Shirley Women's Institute will be celebrating it's 80th anniver- sary with a party on October 24 at the Purple Hill L.O.L. building. On Tuesday evening the Blackstock Recreation Centre was filled to capacity with an overflow into the arena for an in- formation meeting on Landfill sites and waste management. Guest speaker was Bill Parish chairman of PACT (Pickering Ajax Citizens Together for the En- vironment) Bob Almack local resident and an environmental Resourse teacher with the Durham Board of Education presented an excellent address as well. The Zero Garbage group is being organized so anyone who wishes to assist with the group is urged to call either chairman Bill Lishman or Bob Almack. Draws were won by Lor- na Swain, Bernice Loudfoot, Charlie Campbell (2) and Mary Poots. 4H News by Christina Ewart. This week at 4-H we shared new ideas for breakfast and then made a quick bread. We learned how, to do the drugstore wrap. This time we had a good show of 15 girls on October 2nd. Our next meeting is scheduled for October 16. Gerald and Joyce Kelly were Sunday evening dinner guests of June and Bob Petch, Ken and Katherine of Gillford. Marion and Glenn Larmer en- joyed a business and pleasure weekend jaunt to Eastern Ontario visiting friends and his sister Beryl and Ken Strong in Ottawa. One highlight was watching the horse show at the Ottawa Winter Fair featuring the R.C.M.P. Musical Ride. Of local interest, Wayne Cochrane formerly of 'Blackstock exhibited the cham- pion roadster in a strong, exciting class.
