Hospital conducts mock patient search Every year, Community Memorial Hospital exercises at least one of its contingency plans. These plans outline procedures to be followed in the event of a ma- jor influx of patients (due to a disaster, eg. bus crash), firein the hospital, or a missing patient. The exercise helps staff to identify weaknesses and strengths in the plans. On October 10, the hospital con- ducted one of these exercises, simulating a situation wherein a patient deliberately hid himself away from staff. For ex- ample, Toronto hospitals have ex- perienced episodes where confus- ed, elderly patients have wandered away from nursing units, and become lost for long periods of time. By simulating this event, Community Memorial will be better prepared to handle the problem, should it ever arise.
