The Durham Polo Club held an invitational polo meet on the weekend at Chukker Forge Farm, home of Kevin Rundle, In Nestleton. Emiels, Cheers strike wager over American League East outcome A friendly wager has been struck between Emile's Restau- rant in Port Perry and the Cheers Sports Bar in Boston on who will win the American League East pennant. The race between the Bos- ton Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays is down to the wire, with the Sox holding a one game lead after the weekend series. Each team has three to play. As for the wager, if the Jays win the race, Cheers will send a plaque congratulating the Jays and this plaque will hang in Emile'sin Port Perry. Of course, if the Sox win it, Emile's will have to come up with a plaque of congrats to hangin Cheers. The idea for this challenge came from Jerry Cochrane of Port Perry. He phoned Cheers in Bos- ton last week and said the man- ager there, Bill Honeycutt, was more than pleased to accept the wager. Jerry told the Star that if the Jays win or lose, he and sev- eral others from Port may make a quick trip to Boston to present orreceive the plaque. Monsma built a 2 nothing first period lead and coasted to a 3-0 victory. Tom Powell from Tom Carroll started the scoring, with Kerr Kingston from Tom Hansford scoring 1:38 later. Kevin Ibbitson assisted by Gred Lepine and Murray Down round- ed out the scoring. Mark Mason recorded the shutout. Game 2 of the week saw Blackstock get on track with a convincing 5-1 victory. Tom Wotton led the attack with 2 goals. Ron Short had 1 goal 1 assist with singles going to Dave Dalton and Bill Pratt. Gord Bryons and Steve Halkes had assists. Lone goal scorer for Emmer- son's was Charlie Dennis from Dave Lawrence. "The final game had B & R / Swamp Garage against the Framers'. A closely fought first period ended with'B & R up 1-0. Pee Wee house league hockey Last Saturday morning 4 very impressive Pee Wee hockey teams began their season. In the first game Larocque came out the winners, by a slight margin, the score being 3-2. For Larocque, Jeff Jamieson had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jon Jamieson and Jason Brain scored 1 each with an assist to Chris Needham. For Emiels; Justin Wooton and Dwayne Morrison scored one each, with Kris Wooton and Rob- by Martin picking up assists. The 2nd game was between Big V and Consumer's Gas. Con- sumers came out ahead 4 to 3. Eric Lucyk led the scoring for Consumers with 2 goals. Jason Brown and Randy Palach each scored 1. Assists went to Dan McKay, Matt Phoenix, Ryan Larmer and Steve Hiemstra. Stewart Bruce scored 1 goal and had an assist for Big V. Devon Blair and Steve Cochrane also scored 1.
