Elirpa Construction and Ma- terials Ltd. in Pickering had the lowest of six bids presented tothe region. Its (Elirpa's) total tender amount was $142,084. Two other bidders -- Ron Rob- inson Ltd. of Oshawa and Boyle Excavating Ltd. of Bowman- ville -- were within a few thou- sand dollars of the lowest bid. Hard-Co Excavating Ltd. of Whitby had the highest bid of $218,751. The total cost for the transfer station is estimated at $169,700. This amount in- cludes the tender amount, sun- dry work by regional staff ($2,000), engineering ($21,316), and contingencies ($4,300). Work on the transfer station is slated to begin this month and be completed in October. Because Scugog Township has no available landfill site, residents will dump their waste material at the transfer sta- tion. The waste will then be transported to the Brock West Landfill Site in Pickering. - NOW REGISTERING - 4 WEEK COURSE Starts OCTOBER 1st Mon. & Wed. 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - TWO INSTRUCTORS - Charlie Farquharson to provide entertainment at Library gala Internationally famous Cana- dian entertainer Charlie Far- quharson is coming to Port Perry, Thursday, October 18. He will be the featured entertainment when the Scugog Memorial Library hosts a gala fundraising dinner and auction at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. The author of such best-selling books as the Korn Filled Allmynack and the Jog Free of Canada, Charlie is also a regular on the long-running TV show, Hee Haw. Charlie is, of course, the comic alter ego of writer, broadcaster, and actor Don Harron. His career, which began on CBC Radio in 1936, has included stage roles at the Stratford Festival, and appearances in hit TV shows like Dr. Kildare, Mission Impossi- ble, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He also wrote the long-running musical, Anne of Green Gables, which is in its 25th season at the Charlottetown Festival, and hosted the popular CBC Radio series Morningside. In 1980 he was awarded the Order of Canada. Charlie's performance though, is only one reason not to miss this special evening. In addition to a delicious gourmet dinner, there will be auctions and raffles for artwork, books, and other items - a good opportunity to pick up some unique Christmas gifts. The evening will be capped with some lucky person winning a week-long trip for two to Jamaica. All proceeds from the evening go to purchase books, tapes, and videos so that the Library's col- lection can continue to grow to meet the community's needs. Only 200 tickets are available for the dinner at $60 each, and 300 tickets will be gold for the Jamaican vacation at $20 each. You need not attend the dinner to win the Jamaican vacation. Both tickets are available at the Library (985-7686) and several local businesses.
