The Never Alone program, based out of Port Perry, enables seniors to live in their home for as long as possible, while at the same time providing peace of mind for their relatives. On the Never Alone program, seniors wear a small transmit- ter either around their neck or on their belt. If trouble arises, the person presses a small button on the transmitter. That sends a radio transmission to a receiver in the home. The receiver acti- vates a dialer which captures the telephone line and a coded signal is sent to AMSOC (Alarm Monitoring Systems of Canada)in Port Perry. When the call reaches AM- SOC, trained staff pull a com- puter file on the person and send the appropriate help to their home. The computer file is a stock pile of information, including the person's doctor, medical history, relative's names, close neighbors, and where a key to the house may be located in case emergency crews cannot gainentrance. The Never Alone program also sends an inactivity report to the main terminal in Port Perry. Aninfra red beamis set up in the house. If the person does not pass through the beam in a 24-hour period, the pendant will send a signal to AMSOC. The Never Alone system is also beneficial to people who work and live alone, AMSOC president Morley Pitts told the Port Perry Star. Dr. Morley Pitts, local chiropractor and AMSOC (Alarm Monitoring Systems of Canada) president displays the small alarm pendant seniors can wear. Emergency help Is only a finger press away.
