Lynn Fair received a standing ovation from about 500 friends from the farming community in Ontario County last Fri- day night in the Sunderland Arena. The occasion was the retire- ment dinner to honour the end of a long career with the Depart- ment of Agriculture and Food. A burned out fuse on a hydro pole near Elmer Wilson's poultry house caused over 1,500 hens to perish Friday about 2 a.m. The ventilating fans shut off and the hens in the top rows smothered from lack of air. The Waterloo Lutheran Music Department, under the direc- tion of Professor Walter Kemp, A.R.C.T., B.A., M.A., Ph.D, an- nounced the high standing of Glenn Taylor who achieved honours in improvisation, keyboard harmony, and score reading. In the second course, History of Music, he stood second in the class of thirty with 82 percent in the examination. Twenty-five exhibitors showed a total of 93 animals at the 34th Ontario County Black & White Show. Constable Steve Mowatt of Port Perry is one of eighteen members of the OPP Golden Helmets precision motorcycle riding team. s Two long-time residents of Port Perry, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Brock cel€brated their 50th anniversary last Sunday. September is a very special month for the Brocks as not only do they celebrate their 50th anniversary on September 1st, but also Mr. Brock's 75th birthday on September 6th & 100 years of family business about mid September. For the first time ever, there was a Baby Show at the Port Perry Fair and it proved to be a most popular event with 44 youngsters squealing & gurgling for the judges.
