mm TE ------ High yield for Ontario wheat The Ontario Wheat Producers' Marketing Board reports that the 1990 gop of Ontario soft white wheat is ested and is general- ly of good quality. The board estimates that the crop will yield approximately 10% - 15% higher than the 1989 crop, and the record wheat crop anticipated may reach approximately 1.3 million tonne. It is estimated that 70% of the deliveries will be grade #1 and #2, with the balance grading #3 and feed. ' Board export sales to the end of September of the 1990 crop to date total 752,000 tonnes with a pro- jected total volume for export by crop year end of nearly one million tonnes. The balance, or approximately 300,000 tonne will be sold into the domestic milling, feed and seed markets. The current pricing of the 1990 crop can only be described as a financial disaster. Of the export sales to date, the selling price has averaged $110.88 per tonne. Cur- rent price for export wheat is ap- proximately $85 per tonne in store Lakes, or down approximately $45 per tonne from March, and down 50% from one year ago. Domestic sales are priced weekly and the current pricing for Ontario soft white winter wheat is $154.26 per tonne, down approximately $59 Damage $ Tmillion Durham Region Police esti- mate damage at more than $1 million after a tornado touched down August 28in Newcastle. Police say the twister trav- elled just over a mile in an area between Concession Four and Gilmore Road in Clarke Town- ship. There were no injuries, but a number of barns and drive sheds were damaged. The roof of one barn was completely ripped off by the powerful winds, and half the roof of a residence was de- stroyed. The twister hit the area just after 5:00 PM, travelling in a south-east direction. per tonne from March, and down $65 per tonne from one year ago. The pricing drop is a direct result of substantial losses against the Chicago market oh domestic human consumption pricing. Furtherr, depressed world wheat prices due to the USA export enhancement and EEC export restitution, projected world wheat price supplies and carryover, excellent world wheat harvest, stronger Canadian dollar and the recent Iraqi trade em- bargo have had a major impact on the sharp drop in wheat prices. At this time, the board projects that there will be no further payments from the board on the 1990 crop. Further payments on the 1990 crop will come to pro- ducers in the form of federal/pro- vincial stabilization support. The producer initial payment is guaranteed by the federal govern- ment under the Agricultural Pro- ducts Co-operative Marketing Act. The board will be pursuing all markets and pricing capabilities, and will also be meeting with federal/provincial ministers to request further assistance on the 1990 Ontario wheat crop.
