20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 28, 1990 Lawn bowlers celebrate anniversary Western Style On August 19 the theme was "Western" for the Fourth An- niversary Tournament. From the "West" came rain and clouds in the morning but at the 2 p.m. star- ting time the 'Western' sun shone in all its glory on the spec- tacle below. This sunshine enhanced the many styles . of "Western" dress worn by the members. About 70 people participated in the activities which included Spider Bowling, Regular Bowling, Western Wagon rides, Dinner and a special program with prizes for everyone. Refreshments were provided throughout the day. This includ- ed a selection of squares, lemon- ade, coffee, tea, a full course chicken dinner all ending with a big Anniversary cake in the evening. Neil Hunter and Linda Hunter came from the '"'West" (Green- bank)! to provide the authentic ~ Western Chuck wagon rides. On these rides members had the op- portunity to view all aspects of the Lawn Bowling Facility. A lively musical and dancing demonstration was provided, under the direction of Eva Hunter and Ruby Beare. The participants were: Jim and Mary Baird, Ruby Beare, Archie and Jean Camp- bell, Howard Coulter, Grand Hunter, John and Hazel Leger, Carol Morrow, Jim and Minnie Martin. The Spider Bowling was won by Gwenyth Thompson and Jean Gray. The high scores for the Regular Bowling were: Ladies - Mary Baird, Gwen Crawford, and Anna Beaton. Men - Stan Foster. Ken Lee and Chuck Bathie. The best dressed "Western" was Marie Foster. Store yard sale, Sept.15 What a beautiful weekend that was. [ actually sat and read in the sun. Saturday was just too hot to play soccer but there we all were watching our children run around. I was pleased to see how well our sons & daughters work- ed as a team. Leslie Hunter's hair Hore was flying as she rushed down the field. I don't know how she work- ed so hard on such a hot day. He must be getting younger instead of older. Mr. & Mrs. F. Stagg of Toronto were with Grace & Les Beacock & also their Caldren cousins Olive and Florence Beacock. Mr. & Mrs. F. Gibson were din- ner company for the Leahman's recently. The Gibsons are from Coboconk. I enioyed watching the two Port Perry Mosquito soccer teams play against one another. They worked very hard but enjoyed the friendly competition. Heather Bredin still claims she took the ball from her friend Michelle Evans but Michelle disagrees. I' don't know who to believe. Michelle's team won 4-3 and on Saturday beat Heather again 2-0. I hope these teams don't meet in the playoff next week. Enjoy this last week of holidays . everyone!
