He said alot of people in the province "are amazed" that Pre- mier David Peterson would call an election for September 6 this ear, considering that Peterson as two years leftin his term. Noting that the election will cost Ontario tax-payers some $40 million, Mills said he plans to press this point as he tours Durham East riding seek- ing support from voters. And he said he plans to hammer away at the Liberals on a wide range of other topics. By doing away with person- al OHIP premiums, he said, and forcing business to make the payments, the people of the province will end up paying in the long run because business will simply pass the costs back to the consumers. And he said the Liberals promised 4,000 new hospital beds for Ontario. In actual fact, the number of beds has been cut by some 2,000, he charged. Mills said it's deplorable that so many Ontario children are forced to attend class in portables. "They have to wash their hands in buckets of water. This is not a suitable way to educate our children," he said.
