He competed at Westgate Speedway for three years and previously raced go carts for ve years. Racing at Mosport is a differ- ent experience from Westgate in Peterborough. The track, located in the mu- nicipality of Newcastle, was re- surfaced this year and is a half mile in length, unlike West- gate's quarter mile track. One of his recent feature wins came on a night when Da- ryl almost didn't show up. He had gone camping for the August long weekend expecting that the Saturday night races at Mosport would be cancelled because a rock festival planned at the race track. But due to opposition to the concert, the festival was moved and Daryl raced home to take the checkered flag. He admits it's difficult to keep his foot off the pedal when driving his personal car -- an '84 Corvette. "I have a tendancy to push the pedal down, especially if I'm going out after a race on Satur- ay, Daryl told the Star. "But I've never had a speed- ing ticket." aryl said stock car racing is a lot of fun "but it's getting to be an expensive sport now." The parts for his '90 Chev Lu- mina don't come from his dad's wrecking yard - Port Perry Auto Wreckers. "The technology is getting better and better," he said. "If you want to*win you have to spend the money." And Daryl wants to win. But what he wants to do even more is make a career out of stock car raglan.
