If you can help us out, Fish hot spots in Durham "Fishing in Durham Region," a new publication being distributed by the Tourist Association of Durham Region (TADR) and pro- duced by Durham Region's Economic Development Depart- ment promises to be a popular item with anglers seeking the Region's fishing 'hot spots." This publication is the first step toward implementation of the recommendations made in the Region's "Sport Fishing Study" released earlier this year. The author of that study, Joe Montgomery, was also responsible for the research and lay out of this guide. "Fishing in Durham Region' is a comprehensive map and guide and will be used to promote Durham as an ideal destination for anglers. Norm Leigh, Manager of Business Develop- ment for the Region stated that "Our Department is pleased to be able to help TADR and local tourism-based businesses by pro- ducing this map. We realized we had a tremendous resource right on our doorstep which few people, either residents or visitors, even knew about. The challenge then became, 'How do we let people know about this?' The ideal solu- tion was to produce a fishing map guide and get it into circulation." Rick Clow, TADR President also expressed his pleasure with the new publication. "With the fishing guide in wide distribution we hope to attract a great number of anglers who traditionally feel they have to go much farther away to find good fishing. Also with the national economy soften- ing, many people are cutting batk on their travel plans and looking for destinations that are closer to home and less expensive - and that's us. The publication of this map could not come at a better time. It, combined with our ex- isting Tourist Guidebook and Tourist Map, will definitely serve to boost business for our local tourism industry." The map is available at all libraries and municipal offices in the Region, as well as marinas and fishing supply outlets. The Region and TADR also hope to be able to attend outdoor recreation shows in Cleveland, Buffalo and Toronto early next year to lure the large numbers of avid anglers in those markets.
