Group studies Ontario laws on conflicts Municipal Affairs Minister John Sweeney has named the members of a consultation com- mittee to study Ontario's municipal conflict of interest rules. The committee will hold public meetings across the province to discuss the issue raised in a discussion paper on municipal conflict of interest released by the Ministry last April. It will also consider written submissions. The committee wil then make recommendations to the Minister on amendments to the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. "The people of Ontario must be reassured of the integrity of their local governments," Mr. Sweeney said. 'Conflict of interest rules must therefore be clear and easi-. ly understood by municipal politi-. cians and the public." Committee members are: Dun- can Read, a trustee with the Durham Board of Education; Ray Timson, former executive editor of the Toronto Star; Elizabeth Kishkon, former mayor of the city of Windsor; David Bar- rett, former city clerk of the City of Welland; Leo Longo, Toronto lawyer and vice chairman of the Municipal Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association (On- tario); Michael Smither, editor and publisher of 'the magazine Municipal World; and David Siegel, associate professor of political science at Brock Univer- sity. The committee's chairman, announced in April, is Cy Arm- strong, a former city manager.of the City of Edmonton and chief administrative officer of the Region of Hamilton Wentworth. f HELP HELP HELP Friday, August 3rd, 1990 HELP HELP HELP ol BUTTERFLY CONTEST + Help Create a Window Display of Butterflies Capture the Beauty of our Living Environment BOOKS GALORE & MORE W All entries submitted by Wr 175 Perry Street, "4 Port Perry 985-8645 -- HELP "HELP AGE GROUPS 51to 7 years 81to 10 years A Book of Your Choice (maximum $20.)
