What about our vaunted health care system in Ontario. It's under strain right now as costs seem to be going up, yet we hear from time to time of bed shortages, and long waits to get specialized medical treatment. Can you tell us exactly what your Government has in mind for health care? There is no end of serious issues facing the province, in- deed the country in this summer of 1990. The list goes on: we might mention the environment, which along with health care and education, is perhaps the most important "big issue" on the minds of the people. What plans do you have to clean up our water and the air, to protect wildlife habitats, and leave a cleaner Ontario for future generations? Recent opinion polls suggest the people of Ontario are prepared to return the Liberals to office this election. The polls may be right. But somebody once said the only poll that really matters is the one on voting day. We'll keep that old adage in mind, Mr. Premier, as we fol- low you along the campaign trail for the next six weeks. The ople of this riding Durham East and in every riding, are not in a mood for election baffle-gab or wishy-washy statements. Lord knows, we have had our fill of this kind of guff from that guy up in Ottawa. Give us the plain stuff this time out. Tell us exactly what you plan to do if we give you a new mandate. Please don't make any promises you can't keep. Give us the goods, straight up, on the rocks, and forget the sugar coatings. Come September 6, we'll let you know how we feel. Farmers urged to check for worms Farmers in Durham Re- gion are being urged to check ce- reals and corn fields for army worms. Marlene Werry, farm man- agement specialist with the Ag- riculture Ministry, said Mon- day that "one isolated report of army worm has been made in Durham Region." The caterpillars are dark grey to dark green in colour with five yellow longtitudinal strips. Full grown, they can reach about 1.5inches in length. From the time the cgg hatches until maturity, the cat- erillar will eat vigorously for three to four weeks, causing ex tensive damage to grain crops. It is best to check grain and corn fields in the early morning orevening. Spraying (at a cost of $6 to $20 per acre) may be justified if more than half a dozen caterpil- lars per square foot are discov- ered. The smaller the worms, the more damage they can cause before reaching maturity. Kids can travel at daycamp Hello Kids!
