"Our priorities are aimed at promoting the professionals in the sport of fishing and encour- aging the practice of live release' when possible," hesaid. While the tournament is not considered a large fish contest, a cash prize of $1,000 is given out for the largest fish on both days. On Saturday that prize went to John Markesini who landed a 5.90 pound bass, while Sunday, John MacDonald's bass tipped the scale at 5.95 pounds. Pro Bass officials are very care- ful during weigh-in to ensure the safc and healthy return of its fish. When they are brought in for weighing, the fish are placed into water filled plastic bags and tak- en to the first of three stations. Here they are placed inot a holding basket that is sub- merged intoa holding tank treat- ed with a Catch and Release chemical designed to replace the protective slime coat on the fish. This proceedure is repeated in three different tanks, with each of the tanks a few degrees cooler than the first. A process which is designed to slow down the me- tabolism and help relax the fish during the weigh-in. After being weighed, the fish go through the same process again but in reverse, to bring the temperature back up to that of the water they are to be released into. This proceedure helps en- sure a high release rate and fish that will spawn and can be caughtagain. Final ten standing and their winnings for the OV Pro Bass Port Perry Openareas follows: 1. H.
