22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 17, 1990 Birthday Celebration of Interest On July 7th, Avril Walker of Scugog Point celebrated her 10th birthday. A great party was hosted by her parents Regenia & David Walker at their home on Lake Scugog, with many guests in attendance to make it a special occasion. Present were: Erin MacMaster & Deanna Latreille of Port Perry, Doreen Rush of Scugog Point, her daughter Janet Allan and twins - Donny & Aman- da of Hartington, Asleigh Bartlett, Uncle Martin Hill and friend Diane Mitchell and her children Shane & Chantale, all of Oshawa. Avril's grandparents Eugenia & Herbert Hill of Whitby and Avril's brother Klye Walker. After a delicious lunch of sand- wiches, birthday cake, etc.. The children and adults enjoyed an afternoon of water activities, under a lovely sunny day. Our best wishes to Avril for a wonder- ful year. U.C.W. Summer Outing On Tuesday afternoon, four car loads of U.C.W. members and two husbands, from Nestleton, en- joyed a guided tour of Parkwood Estates, Oshawa. A lovely sum- mer day; made the tour of the spacious grounds and flower beds a most pleasant experience. Parking was a light problem due to fashion photography and a movie shoot in progress that day. This was followed by a tour of the McLaughlin Art Gallery. Most of the group stayed to enjoy an even- ing meal together at the Marigold Restaurant on Simcoe North. A nice change for all! Caesarea Community Church An average attendance of wor- shippers gathered on July 15, 11 a.m. at the Caesarea Church. Guest speaker was Paul Karl Thomas from Castlefield Chris- tian Fellowship Church in Toron- to. Text: John 15:12-17. The theme of the service was "Love." Pastor Thomas encourages us to open our hearts to others that we may demonstrate the unconditional, love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to those who need it. As Christians we must be willing to go the extra mile in showing our love towards our children; our neighbours; and others. Kathleen Watts played for the service. Trip A Highlight Marion Hall, Port Perry & Wms. Point, has just returned from a wonderfully interesting trip abroad; and while in Europe toured Norway, Sweden, Den- mark and Germany. Pat Cornell, Etobicoke, spent a few days with her parents Russell & Edda Bowman of St. Christopher this past week; an enjoyable time for all. : Nestleton United Church On a pleasant but rainy Sunday, we enjoyed the service at Nestleton United, with Lawrence Malcolm the friendly greeter at the door. : Rev. Dale Davis brought a message of interest re - subject, "How Is Your Crop And Soil Testing Program?"' bringing to the fore thoughts re - sowing the seeds; tending it faithfully; keep- ing the weeks out. He pointed out - it is the same with ourselves; we have to have Gods help to keep weeds out of our lives. For the gifts to every nation; for the fruit of all creation; thanks be to God. A very charming little duet with Claire & small Robert Notman; sang a 'Good News" song, unac- companied, with warm applause from the congregation. Offering by Reg Hughes & Norm Mairs. Regatta News A general reminder; the Lake Scugog Regatta dates are the 4, 5, and 6th of August. It will start off at the Fire Hall in Caesarea, at 10 o'clock with a large Antique car parade. They will be judged and expect to have 25 old antique cars. The children's parade will also be a feature. The church service will be held August 4, 10:30 a.m. in the Park. A reminder! The annual Golf Tournament will be held on July 28, at Sunnybrae Golf Club, Port Perry. Sympathy Extended Our deepest sympathy goes out to the relatives and friends of brother Charles Cawker of Scar- borough, who passed away on Tuesday, July 10, in Scarborough East General Hospital. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Nell, son Ken, of Scarborough; brother Gordon of Lindsay, Samuel of Nestleton, Robert of Scugog Is., and sister Grace Hastings of Port Perry. A brother Jim, Man- chester predeceased him, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, etc. and a host of friends. The funeral service was held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Sherrin Funeral Home, 873 Kingston Road, with interment in Pine Grove Cemetery at Prince Albert. A reception was held after for the many relatives and friends at Port Perry United Church, with the U.C.W. serving lovely refreshments. . Charles will be sadly missed by all who knew him! - U.C.W. enjoyed tour of Parkwood Estates Letter of Interest The S. Cawkers of Scugog Pt. Rd. received a very wonderful, explanatory letter from Rev. Dr. Crawford, of Caesarea Church, who is visiting with his brother in Australia. He is enjoying getting about in the land down under and relates many interesting stories of his travels and experiences. His home base is the well known town of 'Alice Springs" - the Headquarters of the 'Royal Fly- ing Doctor Service." He is feeling much better and feels the climate there agrees with him. He sends "Kindest Regards' to all his friends! Thinking of You Very best wishes to all those in Hospital - sister-in-law Madeline Cawker who was taken in last week. Also - Margaret VanCamp - an old friend - who has been in hospital for some time, but is im- proving I understand. All the best to you both. We are thinking of you each day! Betty Hallett, 65 Betty Hallett entered into rest at the Port Perry Hospital on Fri- day, June 22, 1990. She was in her 66th year. Betty was born December 26, 1924. She was the daughter of Sarah (Brown) and George Hall. Betty had 3 sisters, Margaret, Eva and Mae. She received her education in Port Perry and worked in her parents restaurant and in Brock's Department Store in Port Perry. As a young girl, growing up in Port Perry, Betty was quite ac- tive in skating and swimming. In 1943, Betty met and married Ross Hallett and they moved to a farm near Sonya, Ont. Betty and Ross had seven children. In 1969 they moved into a new home they had built in the hamlet of Sonya. Betty. enjoyed being with friends, helping out in the local church and liked having a beautiful flower garden and huge vegetable garden. She took a great interest in her grand- children's sporting events, as well as their report cards. SES In the last few years, Betty found the winters long and she truly enjoyed a trip to Florida where the weather was so much warmer. Betty is survived by her hus- band Ross Hallett of Sonya. Dear mother of Darlene Hunter of Sonya, Gary of Valentia, Lynda Lywood of Lindsay, Deborah Brown of Sonya, Richard of Oshawa, Jill Brear of Little Bri- tain and Donald at home. Loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren. Sister of Mae Kilpatrick of Madoc and predeceased by Margaret Beverly of Uxbridge and Eva Rodd of Port Perry. A Funeral Service was held at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry on Monday June 25, 1990. Interment Pinegrove Cemetery. Rev. Stuart McEntyre officiated.
