Manchester news Block Parent yard sale a success by Pat Kingston The UCW met in the home of Diane McKinzey on June 14th with eight members present. It was good to have Rita Storie with us after her stay in hospital, she had arranged a very worthwhile devotional. Sometimes we should take time to enjoy our own back yards, and be content with what we have. Diane McKinzey con- ducted the busin'ss meeting. We were sorry to learn that Ethel Franklin was in intensive care in Oshawa Hospital. The Layette was on display, complete with a beautiful hand knitted coverlet by Marion Ginn, a special thank you to all those who put the layette together. On July 4th we are taking a trip to the Kawartha Summer Theatre From Page 12 at what they said was a feeling of "being talked down to" by some elected officials. Regional chairman Gary Herrema had accepted an invi- tation to attend, but regional business kept him away. Education Minister Sean Conway sent his regrets, but de- clined to attend. And Oshawa Mayor Allan Pilkey was invited to attend the to see 'Prisoner of 2nd Avenue' by Neil Simon. Our next regular meeting will be in September. Rita had a video on the natural wonders of the north shore of Lake Superior that was beautiful. The Manchester Block Parent Programme wish to express their gratitude to all who contributed to the success of their community yard sale held on June 7th & 8th. We far exceeded our objective for raising sufficient funds for our Block Parent Road signs. Special thanks go out to George Blayone, fundraising chairman and his committee Barb Doupe, Barb & Ed Tavlor. Charlotte Taylor, Deb- bie Hopkins and Merv Storie for the use of his truck. Also Jim Hyndman for all his special effort & organization. ~ Chairman absent meeting to answer questions about the two-building concept for Regional HQ. He declined, saying any concerns of ratepay- ers over this issue should be ad- dressed to Durham Region council. CAUT is hoping to host an- other public meeting over taxis- sues next spring, and perhaps host an all-candidates meeting next fall just before the munici- pal election Manchester United Church celebrated Senior Citizens Sunday on June 24th. The visiting minister was the Rev. Walter Franklin-Hearne a retired minister from Cameron. The Scugog Seniors Choir helped to make this a very meaningful ser- vice. We thank them for their dedication. We all enjoyed lunch and a social time afterwards. This service has become an annual event at Manchester! Why don't you join us next year? Manchester United Church will be closed for the month of July. There will be a joint-service for the Pastoral Charge at Grace Church on Scugog Island at 10 A.M. each Sunday. TAXES DOUBLE BY 1995? CITIZENS AGAINST UNJUSTIFIED TAXES CAUT has prepared this schedule for your information. The first column is the assessed value of properties. The other columns indicate the 1989 taxes and the estimated taxes to 1995. The annual tax increase is based on the 1990 increase of 13.2%. To find your approximate tax costs in future years, check the first column for the closest assessed value to yours (or find the amount of your tax bill for this year in the 1990 column) then follow the columns across for your estimated 1995 tax costs. This conservative 13.2% increase only includes services which Scugog Township is currently receiving.
