As more and more people in to- day's sogiety don't have the time to sit down with a good book, and are disenchanted with T.V., they are listening increasingly, to abridgements of stories (books) on tape, read by some of the world's finest authors and actors. Being read to is another form of entertainment, and is once again becoming a very popular past- time. You can enjoy this while do- ing other things. Working parents can listen and "talking books" on the car tape deck as they drive to and from work. Children can listen to stories, to make a long tedious journey in the car a pleasant one. Jog and listen with headphones. Garden and listen. Even the mun- daine chore of housework becomes more tolerable if you have a good book to listen to. You may want to be relaxed and lull- ed to sleep by the wonderful voice of John Le Carre spinning the tale of the "Russia House,' or David Niven, for instance, relating his own humorous story in "The Moon is a Balloon." You can listen casually to story telling, or you may choose one of the many business tapes, health tapes, or personal development tapes. Subliminal tapes are very popular these days. There are tapes designed to help you quit smoking, to help reduce stress, or to build up your self-esteem, etc. What-ever the reason, "talking books' are here to stay. So, why _not visit your library today and make a selection from the wonderful display of new talking books. Windsor Trim plant loses Buick trim bid General Motors of Canada Limited announced June 14 that the Windsor Trim plant was un- successful in their bid to retain trim business for the 1991 Buick Park Avenue. This contract has been awarded to Findley In- dustries, with headquarters in Findley, Ohio. The company was informed of this decision by In- land Fisher Guide, a division of General Motors Corporation. Don Blight, vice-president and director of operations, stated, "The plant made every effort, in- cluding discussions with CAW local 1973 to bid at a competitive level. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful in achieving the cost reduction goals necessary to keep the work in Windsor. This decision will result in the loss of 255 jobs at our Wind- sor Trim plant. "We anticipate only negligible impact to our Canadian supplier community since the current material suppliers for the 1991 ° Buick Park Avenue components are located primarily in the U.S." concluded Blight.
