Sports Jacket & Slacks receive a FREE SHIRT & TIE During the course of tue school year, senior students have tutored their junior coun- -terpartsin reading skills. At the beginning of May a reading incentive program was set up by the reading tutor pro- gram staff advisors Cathy Chil- ton and Penny Maring. The program involved the students selecting a book at a higher reading difficulty than their course outlined. After completing the book, the student -- with the help of their tutor -- worked on pro- jects. But the projects were not regular book reports. Instead, the students had the chance to pick an activity relat- ing to the book. One of the activities included taping noises that related to the book's theme. i As part of the incentive pro- gram, each student received an award at the end of the pro- gram. The peer tutors ap- proached local merchants who donated prizes for the students. Businesses participating in the incentive program include Luke's Country Store, Square Boy, Northern Clothing Com- pany, Images, Sportsland, Cine-Max Video, Katy's Sweet Treats, Books Galore and More, Play It A Game, David's Hair- styling, Pineridge Sports, and Dimitris. This was the first year PPHS has implemented the program and although Mrs. Chilton said there are some wrinkles to work out, she is hopeful the pro- gram will continue next year.
