This is something new for Durham Region and it is hoped this will give the Chapter higher visibility in the Region as well as give per- sons with Multiple Sclerosis and other interested persons easier access to information and ser- vices provided by the Multiple Sclerosis Society. These representatives will have seats on the Durham Regional Board with full voting privileges and be the first point of contact for members in their local area. They will be the liaison persons for their members with direct in- put to the Board of Directors and participate in Chapter-wide ac- tivities and initiate local activities. Recently elected to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Durham Regional Board, Tom and Doreen Pickett were appointed local area representatives for Uxbridge and given the task of setting up a net- work of representatives from the various population centres in Durham Region. i Tom Pickett has had Multiple Sclerosis for over 24 years and his disablility now is such that most of his day time hours arespentin. {# a wheel chair. He uses a battery- powered scooter to move around the house and to travel about town. Tom was the Director of Administration of the Renfrew County Mulitple Sclerosis Chapter for four years and his wife, Doreen served as Social Ac- tion Director and one year as Volunteer Recuiting Coordinator. They are now Director-at-large and Local Area Representatives for Uxbridge on the Multiple Sclerosis Society Durham Regional Chapter Board. Tom and Doreen are natives of Uxbridge area having attended public and high school in Ux- bridge, Bethesda and Port Perry. They moved to Sault Ste. Marie when they were married in 1963, then lived 8 years in Ottawa followed by 16 years in Deep River before moving back to Ux- bridge in 1988. Tom was employed full-time, until 1987, as Ac- ting/Program Director, Forestry Data Systems Program, Cana- dian Forestry Service, Chalk River, Ontario.
