| | 34 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 5, 1990 Results from 21st annual Nonquon event (From page 1) they carefully dis-embarked and were introduced to the large crowd that had gathered to witness this historic moment. And why did they do it? For money of course, money for the Scugog Shores Museum. a and Bill had one goal when they embarked on this 20 mile canoe adventure: to raise funds for the Museum. And that they did. By Mon- day, the pledges were still roll- ingin and the total was nearing the $3,000 mark. To put that in perspective, that's more than was raised by the entire field of canoes when the Nonquon first started back in 1969. a LR ER ER TE LR ER ETE ORE ER EN Ge I UNDER 14 Richie Tripp and Graham Holt: 02:16:18. Just how long they took to travel the 20 miles remains a se- cret. but it was 3:30 in the after- noon when "Ducky" touched home. Actually, they had planned to come out of the water at the Yacht Club, but when they ar- rived there, the lake was glassy calm, so they made the decision to push on. Alas, as "Ducky" plied its way past West Shore Marine, that dreaded south wind came up, which makes paddling all the tougher. _ Butthe crew spurned all of- fers of a tow the last couple of miles as pride was at stake by this time. Seriously, this was a mar- vellous accomplishment by Do- reen and Bill, and the nearly $3,000 raised in pledges will be put to good use by the Scugog Museum. They earned the gifts pre- sented them at the finish line: a bird house for Bill (thanks to Bill Barr) and a rocking chair for Doreen. The efforts of Bill and Do- een helped to spur some re- newed interest in Canoe the Nonquon this year. There were about 70 canoes entered for Saturday's race, and of course all proceeds will go to the Museum. Following are the results (first, second and third) in the various categories.
