He was critical of Premier Peterson for what he called a lack of leadership in the Meech Lake process, and said the peo- ple of Ontario are asking them- "selves just what Peterson stands for. Parts of his 35 minute ad- dress were almost populist in tone as he urged the party sup- porters to "spread the message and fight for what we know is right." He said governments can't continue to promise that every- body has a right to everything. What governments should do, he said, is assure that every- body has the opportunity to those rights. "I was asked that question during the (leadership) cam- paign and I answered that (user fees) it is something I would be receptive to and prepared to dis- cuss," he said. While he spent most of his address slamming the Liberals, he also displayed a bit of a sense of humour. When Mr. Cureatz noted that this was the first time an Ontario PC leader had ever at- tended one of his nomination meetings, Mr. Harris noted that his presence was in return for Mr. Cureatz's support in the leadership race. That got a chuckle for the audience as it was no secret that Mr. Cureatz was a support- er of Ms. Cunningham. The meeting was attended by federal Conservative MP Ross Stevenson, former MP Al- lan Lawrence and Dr. Matt Dy- mond, who represented this area in the Legislature for many years before retiring from active politics. | me MEATING PLACE -- OPEN 7 DAYS a WEEK -- 180 (Queen St., Port Perry BAKERY - DELICATESSEN - FRESH MEAT - COFFEE SHOP 985.2018 [Qa -- THIS WEEK'S SPECIALS -- BAKERY: Kaiser Buns ..........
